The Flash (2005). Directed by David S. Goyer.
Forensic scientist Barry Allen is struck by lightning and doused in chemical products that give him superspeed, which he uses to protect Keystone City as the Flash. Barry and his friend, Detective Hunter Zolomon, are lured into as trap by mad scientist Victor Vesp, who has build a machine to steal Barry's speed. To prevent the machine from leveling the city, Barry sacrifices himself by achieving lightspeed and vanishing. His wife, investigative reporter Iris West, exposes his identity to the public, and his nephew, Wally West, fears he'll never live up to Barry's legacy.
One year later, Wally is struck by lightning and given Barry's powers. Dr. Jerry McGuee from S.T.A.R. Labs theorizes that this is due to Barry's connection to the Speed Force, and Wally develops a relationship with Jerry's ex-wife Dr. Tina McGuee, who teaches him to control his powers. A wheelchair-bound Zolomon volunteers to mentor Wally to replace Barry as the Flash, but Wally is reluctant.
Upon learning of Wally's power, Vesp plants a bomb at an airplane and, while Wally is distracted evacuating it, Vesp is sprung from jail by another speedster, Zoom, who is addicted to the speed Vesp artificially infused him with. Zoom later kills Jerry, kidnaps Tina and lures Wally into a trap at Vesp's lair, revealing himself to be Zolomon, embittered Barry chose Wally as his successor. Vesp attempts to harness Wally's speed, but Wally reaches lightspeed as well and ends up in the Speed Force, where he reunites with Barry, who gives Wally what's left of his speed. Wally returns and Zolomon spirals out of control, killing Vesp and attempting to steal Wally's speed for himself, though he is unable to process it and crumbles into dust. Wally then reunites with Tina and Iris and officially adopts the mantle of the Flash, vowing to honor Barry's sacrifice and find a way to rescue him from the Speed Force.
Ryan Reynolds as Wally West / Flash.

Superman and Batman are old friends. Clark Kent is divorcing Lois Lane and returns to Smallville in search of direction, where he rekindles his relationship with childhood sweetheart Lana Lang, and considers retiring to live with her. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne has abandoned the identity of Batman after Robin's death at the hands of the Joker, who then died as well. With Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner James Gordon dead as well, Bruce moved on and found happiness with humanitarian Elizabeth Miller, but she is murdered on their honeymoon, sending Bruce on a downward spiral that leads him to become Batman once again. Upon learning that the Joker is alive and with superpowers, Batman vows to kill him.
While investigating Elizabeth's murder, Superman finds evidence that Lex Luthor, incarcerated at Stryker's Island after a failed attempt to kill Superman with a Kryponite-based biological weapon, has masterminded the Joker's return and afforded him powers so he could emotionally compromise Batman by killing Elizabeth. Superman attempts to warn Batman, who is unwilling to hear him. As the two friends go on a collision course, Luthor puts a larger masterplan in action, breaking out of jail and stealing an advanced battle armor stolen from the United States government to challenge the two heroes directly.
Armed with a Kryponite-laced armor, Batman beats Superman in a battle in the streets of Metropolis, and confronts the Joker only to find out that Elizabeth was an actress hired by Luthor as part of an elaborate plan to manipulate Batman into killing Superman. The two friends then rejoin forces and defeat Luthor, who is returned to prison, while the Joker escapes. Their friendship renewed, they once again become the World's Finest.

Cyclops blames himself for Jean Grey's death and builds the Danger Room so the X-Men, formed by Wolverine, Storm, Rogue and Iceman, can become a more effective team. Cyclops and Wolverine slowly put their differences aside and earn newfound respect for one another.
Meanwhile, strange phenomenons begin to take place across the planet, and are attributed to a mysterious entity revealed to be Jean, who unlocked her full telepathic and telekinetic powers after her apparent death at Alkali Lake. Now calling herself "The Phoenix", Jean believes herself to be above the petty conflicts of the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants and is decided to end tensions between humans and mutants on her own.

Also on their team is the skilled thief Gambit, who soon develops a kinship with Rogue that drives him to betray the Brotherhood for the X-Men.
Jean soon loses control of her powers due to Magneto's interference and Cyclops is forced to kill her with his optic blasts. I can't believe that was Sam Raimi's idea for Spider-Man 4. As flawed as No. 3 was, 4 would have been infinitely worse.
