As a die hard Avatar fanboy I was of course cautiously optimistic when I heard they were making a sequel. While I saw the potential I was afraid it might be another Caprica situation. Whether or not it will be is still to be seen, although it is off to a good start.

I will go on a little rant real quick about my annoyance that they changed the title to remove the "Avatar" branding because James Cameron basically usurped the trademark "Avatar" in the public's eye, but that is really just a nitpick. The name does not really matter too much besides being kind of a mouthful. Although, it is a little nonsensical since there are four airbenders in the show (not counting the avatar), albeit there is only one master airbender. Maybe it should have been called "The Last Master Airbender: The Legend of Korra," but whatever, doesn't really matter.

Anyways, anyone who is a fan of the original I would highly recommend you check it out, whether by downloading the pilot for free from iTunes or just watching it when it comes on.

Anyone else see it, what were your thoughts?

Tiny spoiler here. It is super tiny, like barely a spoiler, but on the safe side I am spoilerizing it:

Spoiler: show
One thing that struck me as odd was that there was an Air Bison. I always assumed Appa was the last one left and they would go extinct with him, but I guess somehow Aang found Appa a mate. Cool, but surprising. I hope they bring it up at some point.

Me too so far. It carries the spirit without being repetitive. That is what a good sequel should do.

The Voice of God decree was that Aang found a colony of bisons during his adventures. They may or may not bring that in the series.

Is that from a canon/semi-canon source? Like is it from a graphic novel or something?

The creators said so in a comic con (hence the "Voice of God")

Gotchya. Yeah, that works for me.

I hope he also found some lemurs, but I doubt it as I have not seen any around. One thing about this show that is a tiny bummer is we won't get much of an idea what has happened to the rest of the world over the last hundred years. I understand why they made the show stationary to be a contrast with the original where they were on the road all the time, but it would be cool to see if there are still people living in the Northern Air Temple for instance.

I was trying to place the voice of Tenzin the entire episode. Turns out it is J.K. Simmons. I would never have guessed that. He does not even sound like himself. Sounds more like Michael Dorn (which is who I thought it was at first).

Rafael and me can't possibly be the only people watching this.

The finale this week was so perfect on so many levels. The final moments brought tears to my eyes.

Spoiler: show
I think Asami will be good for Korra. :ohyes:

I enjoyed this season but felt the villain this year was underwhelming.(i really enjoyed Henry Rollins as last year's villain)

Agreed. Something was lacking about Kuvira. She had a lot of elements of a great villain, but somehow they didn't come together well. Zaheer was a fantastic villain and kind of a tough act to follow.

Really great show. In these times where we're bombarded with CGI destruction and shaky-cam tricks masquerading as action, it's strange to get the rush that these animated action sequences created. Whoever 'choreographed' those fights did an excellent job.

I hear great things about this. Do I need to watch Airbender first?

I would watch Airbender first. Quite a few characters have a connection to the Airbender. You will also be intrigued with how Korra and her world are different from the Airbender era.
