I've got a Galaxy Tab 2 7" and it's running 4.2.2 How do I get it to run the latest Android system? Thanks a lot.

Here's a thread on what I consider the best Android forums (from the sub-forum devotely entirely to your device). It concludes that Samsung officially announced updates would end for Galaxy Tab 2 with 4.2.2. http://androidforums.com/threads/4-3-up ... b2.743940/There are numerous threads there about how to update it to the latest through techniques that are generally called "rooting." The Android system is so free and unlocked that it is easy from a technical standpoint (root access is allowed), but it may be more trouble than it's worth. Here's one thread on how to do it ("CM" refers to Cyanogen Mod, which is one of the very common custom ROMs people install on their devices. Open source techies have made the latest version adapted to your device). http://androidforums.com/threads/how-to ... -0.839828/Here's the link to the whole sub-forum about your device: http://androidforums.com/forums/samsung ... ab-2.1473/

By the way, I had to type an email out on someone else's iPhone yesterday. It was virtually unusable.

Excellent thanks Jay! And my note 2 is getting repaired (which is really why I am bothering with my tablet at all) and I am using my really old phone - a Nokia xpress5800. It feels oddly retro and steampunk but not unpleasant!

Jay is wrong about the best Android forums, at least insofar as modding and rooting Android devices. I think he's correct when it comes to regular information, with friendly other users though. However, this is where you need to go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-2#subForumsXDA has all the tools and information you need to root, unlock (if applicable; I don't have a Tab 2), and put a custom ROM on there with the latest version of Android. The developers post links to their ROMs right there on the site, and are active in the threads. There isn't any other site that comes close to XDA when it comes to this stuff. You should look in the development forum for ROMs, and the general, help and troubleshooting ones for information on how to get started. It may seem a daunting task, but it's all pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it.

The letters were always capitalised on the keyboard, no visual cue as to whether caps lock was on. And other little things supposed to simplify but displayed poor design. The emperor, he wears no clothes.

You're the first person I've ever heard say the iOS keyboard is unusable (as opposed to touchscreen keyboards in general.)

It's almost as if there are legions of people who would consider nothing else, and legions of people who don't use the iOS keyboard. Never the twain shall meet. And my declaration that there is no punctuation on it sits there, unchallenged. No visual cue of whether caps lock is on, unchallenged.

I find it frustrating every time I pick up an Apple product but I have to admit never being vexed by the keyboard.

I was not vexed. I've specifically stated what was wrong with it. A little googling tells me most of the reviewers of the latest iOS are applauding a much needed upgrade of the keyboard to catch up with features available for an Android device.

I saw no useful keyboard upgrade.

I think it's actually support for third party keyboards --- Apple used to cripple this possibility, but they've decided to allow it.

Agreed.

My Shift key icon changes depending on whether shift or caps-lock is on.
