Something I posted on JB's forum but wanted to get you lovely people's opinion.

The more I hear about what he is trying to do with Superman, the more I think he gets it. Here is where I agree with him 100%

* Go with unknowns wherever possible. Helps with the suspension of disbelief and helps you to escape into the film.
* Keeping John Williams' score, or what he said "Yes, definitely yes"
* Not wasting our time with another origin sequence. The whole world knows how he came to be.

I hear rumors of Superman being missing for 6 years, Terence Stamp as Zod and I think I know where he's going. He is going to build up Superman's re-appearance, showing everyone how he is THE SUPERhero, aided by the spine tingling John WIlliams music.

Now if only the FF movie could get me excited like this.

This sounds AMAZING.

Singer is a brilliant writer/director - Usual Suspects is one of my favorite movies of all time.

I never thought someone could pull off an X-men movie...Singer did it twice...both X-films were brilliant, entertaining, and captured the true spirit of everything good about the X-books...hell the comics havent been as good as the flics in ages!

My only regret about Signer on Supes is that he wont be involved in X3..!

I also love how this is anot a reboot...the first two films happened and we dont have to sit through another origin tale (that probably evryone on earth knows already).

The whole Superman returns plot sounds amazing...!

The idea of Superman returning after a long exile is very interesting. It will allow both the audience and the people living in the Superman Returns movie to 're-discover' Superman ... without yet another origin movie.

I'm concerned about the casting however. Brandon Routh has the look of an emerging Superman not a Superman who had been around for a few years and is returning from a 6-year hiatus.

I know Christopher Reeve was 25 when he did the first Movie ... and that Superman was about 30 when he made his debut. Clark left home at 18 and spent 12 years in the Fortress of Solitude being 'trained' to be Superman. Assuming he operated a few years as Superman before disappearing, he should look to be, at least, in his late 30's.

Not nitpicking here. A person returning from exile should bear some marks of having been disillusioned. Brandon Routh looks kinda youthful for that. Unless we are supposed to 'understand' that Superman ages at a slower rate than humans.

Other points are encouraging. John Williams compositions have both depth and scope. The proper dramatic background for the tale of a practical demi-god, after all.

I'd heard elsewhere that Singer was going to retain some elements of the Donner films -- Superman's loss of powers for example. Stamp returning as Zod might be a further indication of this.

Silly fan question time: has anyone heard what the Superman costume might look like? I hardly think we'll be able to see seams on that outfilt in the wake of Tobey Maquire's Spider-Man costume. Krytonian technology still uses needle and thread? I dunno.

I also like the idea of Superman "returning." It's an interesting conncept.
But, like Jesus, I think that Routh looks a bit young for that particular storyline.
He looks like he'll be a fine Superman, after they get him in the wieght room like Toby Maguire & Christian Bale, but for an older, already established Superman, I think Jim Caviezel would've been the perfect choice. Oh well.

Still, I have very good feelings about this film. Batman Begins in 2005, then Superman Returns in 2006. Rock on, baby!

I think ignoring Superman III and IV is an excellent idea. I think keeping the John Williams score is a good idea. I think the "returning" aspect is a good idea. Considering having gotten his powers back during Supes II, I really don't even see the need to address it. Having Stamp return as Zod? Excellent. Perhaps a type of "Kryptonian Hannibal Lechter" in prison is genius. Build the kid up and he'll hopefully make a great Superman. Keep. The. Suit. The. Same. As. It. Was. You don't mess with the suit in any way, shape or form. If you do, you totally negate everything else he's trying to continue. Perhaps the only thing a returning Superman would have to face are the folks that thought he abandoned them after the big fight in Times Square. Also, I don't see why singer can't finish up X3 and then do Supes.

He's already left X3. Both movies are supposed to be released in summer 2006. From what I've read, though, they're actually further along with SUPERMAN than X3. Last thing I heard was that Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart have yet to even sign contracts.

Supposedly, a Wolverine solo movie is currently in developement.
I don't know if that's being looked at as a companion to the X-Men
movies or a substitute for one. It's an interesting character that
could, if done right, be good for it's own separate franchise. A
superhero James Bond, if you will. Also various casting rumours
have named Patrick Stewart as a contender for Jor-El (along with
Jude Law as Zod, Kevin Spacey as Luthor [yes, please!], &
Mischa Barton, Evangeline Lilly, Charisma Carpenter [yes, please!]
& several others as Lois)
, so who knows where all of this leaves
X3.

And considering the reverance for the character that Singer has
stated he has, I doubt y'all need to worry about the suit. They're
not going to mess with that. No Superman in black leather &
sunglasses or anything like that.I know several of the various
movie drafts over the past decade have had him in different
costumes, but some scripts also had Krypton not blowing
up(!), & Superman fighting his cousin, Ty-Zor with lightsabres.
Even Kevin Smith's Superman Lives script (which I read, & it
wasn't bad) had the traditional costume in the beginning & the
end, but had him wearing some Kryptonian exo-skeleton during
much of the middle. But for the context of the story, it actually
worked.

Still, I wouldn't mind a little tweaking of Superman's costume,
both in the comics & other media. It's not like it hasn't been
redesigned a few times over the past 6 decades. It's about
time for an update, I think, as long as it's not too radical. They
just need to keep the "S" shield on the chest, the blue suit,
red boots &, of course, the red cape. I've liked this version since
the first time I saw it about a year ago. What do y'all think?

Replace the "Kingdom Come" insignia with the current one, and lose the little red lines along his ribcage, and it's fine by me.

While I do like the Kingdom Come "S," I don't think it would be right for the movie.

I would not mind seeing a tweaking of Supes outfit. As for the seams on his costume, didn't his mom make it?

Ideas were good, execution and story failed. Never did what he insinuated.

And yet, it's a much better movie than Man of Steel.

Yes it is and it could have been good on its own too with a few changes.

No, it isn't. It's vastly different but not better. I would guess it's like eating a pile of cow shit compared to eating a pile of horse shit.

At least SR has some enjoyable moments and far better flying scenes, MOS was 100% shit.

SR is a good movie that had some really, really boneheaded stuff in it that shouldn't be part of a Superman movie, especially a Superman movie that had the intention of jump-starting a franchise.
