i very much liked the idea of it from the reality. loved the character, the concept was different than anything out there in mainstream comics, liked Cullin's art.... but i don't think it's that well executed writing wise.

i have all the issues and tried to re read them recently. not that great....BUT, i love.....LOVE, Ty Templeton's Blue Devil story in Secret Origins. that man has not enough comics.

That's what I have fond memories of. Not just the reluctant hero, but the reluctant occult hero. And the "suit is no longer a suit" thing was a fresh idea. And someone who didn't do the superhero thing out of revenge or because of disaster befalling others. The disaster hit him, and he had to find a good attitude and make the best of it.

exactly! :)

one of the places where they kind dropped the ball was the follow through of his overall setting. like his job and friends at the studio....while kind of a "fall guy" rip.... it wasn't realistic at all in the way a movie studio and relationships within that industry work.

while i realize we're talking about a guy trapped in a devil suit made real here, you have to ground the fantastic in the realistic. i would've liked to see the stories that would've sprung from working within those parameters.

I liked this series quite a bit at the beginning. Loved Paris Cullins on Blue Devil and Blue Beetle.

What other series could get away with a criminal syndicate of mad scientists wanting to use The Trickster's "flying shoe" technology to cause California to break away form the USA??? Great stuff!!!

I still have the complete run and re-read it a couple months ago, it's really starts to lag near the end unfortunately. Atari Force as well, that one actually isn't that bad at the end.

I remember reading a little bit of "Atari Force," but no "Blue Devil." I do remember the concept. Lots of entertainment franchises today draw their names from video games, of course, but you probably wouldn't see anything like "Blue Devil" now.

Oh, I remember that ad!

In paying for that page, DC spent more that year to promote Doctor Strange than Marvel had.

I didn't read Forever People, but damn, I loved that Blue Beetle series. I really dug the early issues of Blue Devil, too - I don't think I finished the run.
