Maybe this should've waited until Aladdin came out,but that presupposes that it would be a good movie...

Geez, there's some real stinkers on this list. I remember laughing all the way through Enemy of the State with some buddies.

I went with the Legend of Bagger Vance. While I did enjoy some of the other movies on this list - tho fewer than you might think - Vance is the only one where he doesn't play Will Smith.

I went with Bad Boys because of Téa Leoni; plus, it's the only one I own on DVD.

I, Robot got my vote. Hollywood managed to make a vehicle for Will Smith while still incorporating some of the really interesting aspects of the source material.

They included most of Asimov's important central concepts regarding robots. They also didn't introduce a 'love story' element into it, which I thought was a good move. The characters, while by no means the same as the ones from the novels, still came across as characters who wouldn't have been out of place in one of Asimov's stories. I liked it, anyway.

Own and haven't seen. I have more than a few DVDs like that. Though mostly cus I bought it and then didn't watch it before I got around to it, and then found I could watch it on Netflix or something. I buy far fewer DVDs these days.

I own I, Robot and have watched it at least twice. It's pretty good.

I saw Hancock on T.V. and I wouldn't bother to own it. But it was O.K. to watch once, IIRC.

But here I picked Enemy of the State since it was a hell of a ride, and Gene Hackman was great, the story was fun, and though I doubt our government can do half that shit, they can do enough of it.

Other ones I saw and liked:
Independence Day
Men in Black
I,Robot
Suicide Squad

Saw some of the others and wasn't as impressed, or didn't even see them.

Men in Black is my favorite of the ones I've seen.

Hancock and I, Robot were both cheap at Half-Priced books and they sounded interesting, so I took a risk. And since I haven't watched either one, so far I have not regretted it.

Hancock is an interesting example of a Will Smith movie. It did decently $$$ wise but it leaves no impact and a sequel hasn't happened and probably never will. I remember not liking it and didn't buy it and have no inclination to ever see it again. It was the Summer of 2008's tentpole flick as it was released on July 2nd in time for the big July the 4th week/weekend.

Quote:
In the United States, the film was rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America after changes were made at their request in order to avoid an R rating, which it had received twice before. The film was released on July 2, 2008 in the United States by Columbia Pictures. Hancock received mixed reviews from critics and grossed $624 million worldwide, becoming the fourth highest-grossing film of 2008.

Just shows you even a movie that makes very decent money doesn't mean it is really a hit in the long run.

The movie is complete garbage, and very little of what they showed was accurate (or even possible for that matter).

And yes, I speak from actual knowledge.

Well, I did notice the longitude and latitude coordinates they were giving weren't fine enough to pinpoint anything as accurately as they were. It'd take more decimal places than they were using to know where somebody is to the nearest few feet.

But that movie is more enjoyable when one suspends some of one's disbelief or knowledge in accuracy, sort of like you can't really enjoy any superman story unless you accept the premise, no matter how silly it is or how badly they break the laws of physics.

However, if you're very familiar with the movie, I wouldn't mind if you PMed me, or wrote here, a list of the top 10 inaccuracies in your opinion/experience so I can keep them in mind next time I watch it, which I probably will at some point since it's a fun movie, IMO.

That would require me to rewatch it, and I'm not putting myself through that again (it would also most likely violate my NDA).

Off the top of my head though, an easy one would be them moving satellites around like they did. Orbital mechanics don't work like that, and even if they did, it would be really wasteful since you'd have to spend fuel and there's no way to fill up once you've spent that fuel, so moving a satellite is something that isn't done lightly, not to mention some pencil pusher isn't making that call on his own with a National Asset. Speaking of which, that particular Agency doesn't own the satellites, so they don't get to make that decision.

I got the impression they didn't care about wasting assets, and they were hacking things, or blackmailing those that controlled them, so figured they would come out clean - but only if they were left standing and could control the narrative. It was all or nothing for them at that point.

But I figure it would be harder and take longer than they showed, just as I grin and bear it when police organizations get DNA results in short order. At some point, you have to gloss over the inaccuracies or just quit watching TV, badly researched movies, and even quit reading most books. There's almost always mistakes in fiction. And ironically, the more you know, the worse it is.
