I, Frankenstein

Studio: Lakeshore Entertainment

Shoot: July

Director: Stuart Beattie (AUS: Tomorrow, When The War Began - a major hit)

Producers: Gary Lucchesi & Tom Rosenberg (Million Dollar Baby, Underworld series, many other major pics)

Screenplay: Kevin Grevioux, adapted from his Darkstorm Studios graphic novel

Writer: Stuart Beattie (30 Days of Night; Australia; Tomorrow, When The War Began; coming: Halo)

Premise: What if Frankenstein's monster developed to the point where he was able to function as a hard-boiled private investigator? And what if his noir-ified universe included The Invisible Man, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Dracula (as a crime kingpin)?

WTF???

I'm a lifelong Frankie fan, but this sounds like a potential disaster.

I'm hoping Del Toro's Frankenstein (if it ever gets made) will be the definitive modern version.

I've been so disappointed over the years with filmed versions of Frankenstein. I don't think anyone's gotten it right since James Whale. And it was still wrong, in many ways.

Why make Frankenstein's monster a private investigator? Why not make him a porn star in a noir-filled world populated by the Invisible Man (with very visible semen), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (played by Ron Jeremy), and Dracula (as the ultimate Transylvanian tranny)?

Wasn't there a prose series just like this by a famous sci-fi author?

Hmmm. I don't know what to think about that concept? It could work if the right director and cast are behind it.

No, I'm think of Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series. I read Prodigal Son a few years ago: http://www.deankoontz.com/frankenstein-books/

Quote:
Every city has secrets. But none as terrible as this. His name is Deucalion, a tattooed man and sleight-of-reality artist who’s traveled for two centuries with a secret worse than death. He arrives in modern-day New Orleans as a serial killer stalks the streets, a killer who carefully selects his victims for the humanity that is missing in himself.

Is this an age-old conspiracy? A near-immortal race of beings, and killers that are more – and less – than human? They are stronger, heal better, and think faster than any humans ever created – and they must be destroyed. But not even Victor Helios – once Dr. Frankenstein – can stop the engineered killers he’s set loose.

On the case is Detective Carson O’Connor, who is cool, cynical, and every bit as tough as she looks. Her partner Michael Maddison would back her up all the way to hell itself – and that just may be where this case ends up.

Now, the only hope rests in Deucalion, a one-time “monster” and Frankenstein’s first attempt to build a perfect human, and his partners, the all-too-human detectives O’Connor and Maddison. Together, they must destroy a monstrosity that even Dr. Frankenstein could not imagine. Deucalion’s journey is fated to end in the ultimate confrontation between a damned creature his mad creator.

I have a few of Koontz' Frankenstein books, have yet to read them. Now, I'm scared to. :paranoid:

Is it too late to chime in saying I think this sounds kind of cool?

If they add a CGI chipmunk, maybe I'd catch 20 minutes of it on cable. :snooty:
