(Jump over here for the first part of this thread.)

Thought I'd start this thread off by again posting my most recent batch:

First up, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA from '84-'87 -- the much-maligned "Detroit" era of the book. I'm not gonna defend the book's quality during this run, but what can I say, I have some nostalgia for it.

Next is the complete THUNDERSTRIKE. I got this one as a companion volume of sorts for my DeFalco/Frenz THOR run, so I had the spine designed accordingly.

Image

Image

This is the complete Peter David CAPTAIN MARVEL run in three volumes.

Image

Image

Image

This is the original volume of THUNDERBOLTS (with the AVENGERS/THUNDERBOLTS mini substituted for the six "Fightbolts" issues). I had this set bound for my brother.

LBC just posted my Iron Man spine and cover dies on their site, so I'm hopeful I'll be getting those back soon. The Iron Man spine stamp I created from scratch, so I'm very curious to see how it turned out!

Cover dress is real nice on that JLA book.

And on Thunderbolts.

Volume 3 is 2000-2002
Volume 4 is 2001-2004

Is that the avengers crossover, or something else?

Those look great, Zaki. For the new thread, would you please post where you're getting these done?

Sure thing:

Library Binding in Texas

I've been working with them for more than three years now, and I've been extremely happy with the quality of their product and the quality of their customer service.

That's awesome. 'Bout how much do they charge you per volume?

Basically for 15 bucks you get a no-frills bind with standard font and panel lines included. One of my earliest binds was ROM, which I did no-frills.

Image

Handset type allows you to vary the text font and size you have on the spine. I've found that this looks nicer, but it also costs more. Add $10 if you want this. Examples of this are the Captain Marvel and JLA books in this thread (plus the Aquaman, Kamandi, and Question -- plus many more -- volumes in the previous thread). I used Times for those, but you can choose from the list that LBC has on their site.

LBC also has a pretty big selection of die stamps to choose from. They charge $5 per stamp, so if you want, for example, a DC logo, plus a spine logo, plus a cover logo, that would be 15 additional dollars, or $30 per book. This is what I've done for a great many of my books, such as my GL, Flash, and Robin books. Pro: looks great. Con: It ain't cheap.

Personally, I feel like if I'm going to sacrifice my valuable books to binding, I want them to look as nice as possible, so I don't mind spending a little extra, but that's just me.

That's actually pretty affordable and looks better than storing them in longboxes. Hmm.

I'd say it averages out to about 3 or 4 bucks per book.

They look great. I'm saving up for a commission now, but I will be doing some binding in the future. I reread the other post and am reminded how great those are. I think I might start with a ROM set myself. Do you remember what your order was? Just the ROM issues and the one Power Man and Iron Fist? Thanks.

Bummer, Library Binding isn't showing the olive green I wanted for my G.I. Joe books (when I finally get around to binding them). I'll have to see if they still have it and it's not on the site or if they can get some more.

I believe that's one of the colors that was discontinued by the manufacturer.

I wondered about that 2001 date, too, but assumed that you had placed some mini-series,
tie-in-issues or something.

Still, nice to have these bound for your brother.

Yeah, he had stacks of issues lying around that he'd picked up in bargain and quarter bins, so I told him he should just have them bound into something he can actually read. The fun part for me was researching the run, finding tie-ins, and figuring out what should go in and out, etc.

I really need to do my Savage Dragon run at some point. It's such an important series to my hobby that ti deserves that treatment.

Alas, there's too much new (or simply unread by me) material to collect out there!

Most of Savage Dragon has no TPBs, and there aren't even any big B&W collections, so this is really the only way to read it all at once - until he gets around to putting collections on the iPad...
