Superman says that The Parasite's own greed killed him, but Superman knew what would happen and caused it deliberately. So did Superman kill here or not?
For a "specialist" in stealing radioactive isotopes, "Icy" Harris doesn't seem very good at stealing radioactive isotopes. He blundered around there a lot at the beginning.
I guess Superman didn't want any of Icy's future crimes on his hands.

West Ham United fight song.
Did Superman know for certain it would make Icy explode? Perhaps he felt it might just incapacitate Icy in some way, so even if exploding was a possibility, there was no way to know with certainty.
But even if he knew "Icy" Harris (Icy dope, more like) would explode for certain, wouldn't it be a case of self defense, or killing in the defense of others? Imagine what that guy would do with super powers - how many he would kill. Icy said he'd take all superman's powers, even if it killed superman, and he threw a plane at another plane, so Icy's willingness to kill others was never in question. Given the lack of other options, I think superman made the right call there. I'd even argue if Superman had that lethal option (and no other way to stop Icy) but ran away and let Icy kill countless others just to keep his Kyrptonian hands clean, he'd be guilty of a greater crime.
I can't believe the shoddy security at the isotope warehouse. No guards, locks, and unsecured containers. I smell a lawsuit on the part of poor Icy's survivors.

As deaths go, that one looked relatively quick and clean - he looked more scared than in pain, too - and since he was more than willing to kill countless others, I can't think of anyone who deserved to go out like that more than he did. He got off lucky, if you ask me.

That's only because most of the security for the lab was diverted to guard the missile on the flatbed truck outside. They were just getting their coffee first and hadn't gotten to the truck yet.

I think Superman should have exhausted all other possible options first.
