Interesting point. AA adopted the prayer for use in 1950. So, that might be where he picked it up. It had been in use since 1934 when Reinhold Niebuhr wrote it into one of his sermons. It had been published as early as 1942.

But, I suspect he did get it from AA which by 1950 was definitely prominent.

This is out of left field, but wasn't the third guy in that video in POPEYE? He looks like the geeky guy who got his neck stetched out and head pushed down like a turtle by Dennis Franz (!) and/or the other Roughhouse Boys.

That video brings back memories. Jack LaLane was a TV staple when I was a kid. I remember his german shephards, the white one was named Snowball.
