So, I decided to give myself a little Christmas reward for working this year. So I bought myself my first 2 pieces of original art:

The first I remember when it was published a couple years ago as part of the Legacies mini-series DC did that Jose-Luis Garcia-Lopez and Dave Gibbons were one hell of an art team. And I was stunned that it was as cheap as it was. I would have expected to pay a lot more for the page, since I remember thinking it would have made a great poster.

The second one wasn't an exact page I wanted, but it's Dick Dillin, it's the Entire JLA, and it's a story I remember surprising the heck out of me, because I didn't realize at the time that the Identity Crisis Mini was taken from the Dillin run. It's gorgeous up close, too.

Aside from these being my first original art purchases, this is the first time I've posted pictures to IMWAN, so yay me on a couple of fronts.

Happy New Year's, everyone

Jason

Congratulations!

That second page concluded one of the first JLA stories I ever read. Don't have the issue anymore.

This is from one of my favorite JLA stories, despite it having one of the biggest glaring plot-hole in comics.* I loved those last few issues of Secret Society of Super-Villains with that line-up and when the book was cancelled I was so disappointed. Their return was so welcome.

* At the beginning of part 2 the villains, disguised as the JLA, send their counterparts into space and claim victory despite the obvious omission of Star (Zatanna) Sapphire. The villains never seemed to notice.

Thanks for the feedback folks, and I'm glad I could share 'em. Dick Dillin, more than any other artist, is why I'm a comics fan. His work on the JLA, along with Grell on the Legion and Neal Adams on GA / GL are probably my most memorable "personal" artists from when I was a child. I am still much more heavily writer-based, but these bring back great memories for me.

As for the Garcia-Lopez page, I have almost every Titans comic ever published, and having the original art for a re-appearance of their original story works real well for me.

Jason

P.S. Now to avoid this becoming an addiction, because this appears to be a very expensive habit.

Dillin was my favorite artist for awhile when I was a kid. I think that the JLA work that he did 1977 - 1978 was the best of his career. It's incredible how smoothly he crafted that JLA/JSA/Legion summer Crisis so that it featured the all well, yet never felt crowded.

I wish DC would remaster the Lightning Lad/Saturn Girl wedding tabloid by letting Grell re-ink it. Colletta fucked up what could have been Grell's best work.
