I keep looking for an opportunity to bring it up, but what the heck I'll start a thread.

Linda, your librarian career seems to be a prominent part of your identity. Is the Luna Moth character, based on a red-headed librarian, significant to you? Were the Luna Moth jokes done to death at the time?

What about the book, The Amazing Adventures of Kavilier and Klay? Did you read and enjoy it? Anybody else up for an umpteenth discussion on it?

What about the current comic "The Escapists?" Anybody but me reading this? I'm enjoying it. It's about a fledgling comic book company publishing Escapist stories, and it cuts back and forth between the "real world" and the stories they are writing and drawing.

I'm actually not familiar with that character at all. Is she a nice reflection on librarians?

Jay, "The Escapists" has been very enjoyable so far, my first exposure to the Escapist universe thanks to BKV. Love the shifting in art between "real world" and comic world.

Oh my. Yes, absolutely. She's based on a librarian that the main character author meets. She's attractive, but she's in her shell (the classic 1940's archetype of the helpful assistant who is beautiful, but not outgoing. Think Effie Perine (Sam Spade's assistant) or Ms. Moneypenny from Bond.

Anyhow, he dreams about a super-power based on her librarian skills -- it has to do with a great book that is opened. He bases a comic book character on her named Luna Moth, and she becomes the second smash hit from Kavalier and Klay, after the Escapist.

I've thought about it often, but always think "Oh, Linda probably discussed that to death back when the book won the Pulitzer."

You should read it. It's one of my all timers. It's a dense read, but rewards.

I really enjoyed Kavalier and Klay good book. I'm also enjoying the Escapists.
Recommend both.

Given how much time some of the old pulp and comics writers seem to have spent in libraries doing their research to get story ideas, I would think they got along with librarians fairly well.

That sounds awful. The germ of the idea seems swiped from Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrel crossed with Hogan's Heroes.

I just read the Escapists about a week ago actually. I had bought it a few months ago, but never really got around to reading it which is weird because I absolutely loved the Escapist anthologies they were doing for a while after the Kavalier and Clay book.

It was a pretty good book with some nifty 'tricks' in it.
