I've just found out that these existed. If they were commercially available in Australia I blinked and missed it. I was obsessed with toys and model kits as a kid so I was pleasantly surprised to find out about these.

So...monkeys come in barrels, apes come in bottles?

So it seems. Sharks and ghosts also come in bottles. There were also dinosaur ones but I couldn't find a decent quality picture. :)

No one else remembers these or has heard of them? I'm sure they weren't sold in Australia, but does anyWAN recall them?

Maybe I recall something like this advertised in a comic book ad. Maybe.

"Vintage Addar 'Super Scenes' Jaws in a bottle model kit. The Addar company only produced
model kits between 1973 and 1976 and was formed from ex-Aurora employees, they only
produced a limited number of kits of mainly TV and film related subjects."

Thanks for that info, Beachy - no wonder I'd never heard of them before. That's a better pic than I was able to find of the dinosaur one, although they did three different POTA ones as well as the Jaws one.

I'm pretty sure I've never even seen any ads for those products , until now.

I prefer the artwork on the box to the real life finished result, but it was such an interesting idea I can't help but love it.

Prehistoric dinosaurs, as opposed to the ones we see walking around today?

The models themselves are pretty prehistoric as well. The art on the packaging, though, is pure 70's goodness.

Good point.

And yes, Simon, those do look like classic examples of 1970s box art.

I had often wanted to send away for stuff advertised in comics ( imagining they were better than they probably were) but my brother had convinced me that " No C.O.D orders" meant no Canadian orders :)

My brother once ordered the famous box of 100 toy soldiers advertised in comics:

https://hobbylark.com/collecting/100-pi ... oducts-Inc

He did not feel that the product here matched up to the toy soldiers he was accustomed to getting.

Yeah, I ordered a box of those flat soldiers for a $1. Disappointing, yes.
But they did make for good targets for darts, BB guns, and such things.

I only ever wanted to order two things from comics - one was Sea Monkeys (which I eventually bought at some point in my 20's...sad but true) and the other was a Spider-Man glove that shot some sort of cord to simulate web fluid or something. I can't find the ad online at the moment (I'll continue to look), but those were the only two things I wanted to order as a kid.

I recall that Spider-Man shooter thingie. I think it was a gun that shot a dart or something
attached to a string.

I'm seeing a LASER-tag one online and one that holds a can of silly string. I'll keep looking.

There's this (with the note that the string will not support weight):

No idea how it was supposed to work.
