I'm considering buying a gigantic block of back issues, Adventures of Superman #424 through 496 -- basically, the Jerry Ordway run from the Crisis reboot up until the Death of Superman.

Has anyone here read this? Worth getting? I miss ol' Supey.

I read just about all of the Stern/Ordway/Jurgens era of Superman in its day. Jerry Ordway's stories are good and solid, if not particularly amazing. His art is outstanding, of course. And yes, it's "good ol' Supey", more or less.

Ordway was doing the main Superman title for a while there, so don't just get AOS.

The Ordway Superman was far superior to Byrne's, with the exception of the Gangbuster stuff, which I never found interesting.

As a matter of fact, I think you asked me what Superman stories would make my list of the best, and I haven't taken the time to make my decisions. I wouldn't be surprised to find more than one of my top ten or twenty in his AoS and Superman books.

I recently read Superman post-crisis to today, all issues and titles. The best of it was the Stern/Ordway era. The supporting cast expanded and was interesting. I liked the Death and return of Superman saga, personally, and would go all the way up to the wedding issue if I were doing it again. It's a good stopping point.

Give Superman Adventures (the Johnny DC tie-in to Superman:TAS) a try. Some good comics there;surprisingly, the best are by Mark Millar.I'm usually lukewarm to his work but he managed some fine work here.

I bought some or these because of the buzz about Miller only to discover that he was writing stories that have been written before. Later I will give examples.
