Sumo is not on TV right now...here.
I did spend a nice week in LA...kinda working vacation got to eat real, pizza, burrito, hamburger, and subway..can't deal with large size drinks..everything is free refills so why would someone feel it necessary to get a bucket...medium size is good for me.

what the above has to do with Sumo...well nothing at all... :D

My wife and I eat at least once a week at a Japanese restaurant and have become friendly with the owner. When she and her husband (who is the sushi chef) move into their new location, they will broadcast actual Japanese television broadcasts through satellite, so we will get to see real sumo matches.

Not much of an experience, but it's the best I have.

I recently had my diaper refitted due to some weight gain. I'm trying to move up a weight class in the LA Underground Amateur Sumo League (LAUASL). Although that's not actual sumo, it's sumo related. The season doesn't start until mid-Sept, so I won't have any actual sumo stories for a couple weeks when training camp starts.

Maybe this thread was premature? Try thinking things through before posting such irresponsible cartoons, Linda.

I was in Japan last November, during the height of the Sumo season. I watched almost every match with my wife, her Japanese mom, and her Japanese grandmother. Really cool sport.

In all my years here I only liked one sumo wrestler, Chiono Fuji (sp) the guy was awesome. the guy had something like (If I remember correctly) 100 wins 0 losses at one point.

A few months ago a couple of friends insisted that we have sushi for lunch.

I always suspected that I wouldn't like sushi.

Now I know for sure.

Sushi IS an acquired taste, a really good place and the fish taste most people do not like is not there, fresh sushi is quite tasty.

That said I never got into sushi while in the states.
Sad but true, the supermarket sushi here is better than most restaurants in the states.

My 200+ pound wife would have knocked me down had she seen me talking "friendly" with the 200+ pound checkout woman at the PX today. That's the best I have.

I wasn't around for last Sumo Day, but last Halloween (2005), I went to a party as a sumo wrestler. No, really. It was a big hit.

Way back in the dark days of the 1990's I animated all the moves for the Sumo Wrestler character in the Sega Genesis video game "BALLZ".

My wife's boss loaned her a video that chronicled the rise of a Sumo champion, a relatively slight chap who just outmuscled his larger competitors. It was all in Japanese but you could follow it pretty easily. I did that stomp and clap thing everyday for a week.
