These two men are, I submit, the funniest double act who ever lived. I have had to leave the room in tears from watching some of their routines, and believe that they were touched by genius. How say you?

I'm in work now and we block youtube here, but is there much of their work on there? It only now occurs to me that I have never looked for them there...:-(

They were magical, no doubt. Stan was a genius.

There's tons of L&H on YouTube. Here's a rarity for when you're home:

(A short colour film they made for the US Department of Agriculture.)

I think they are very funny, if a tad old fashioned. I probably have not seen all their best work, as they weren't on as much as my favorite duo when I was a kid (except for March of the Wooden Soldiers which aired once a year, every year at Thanksgiving time, along with King Kong!). L&H were sometimes on but not always.

My favorite duo though is Abbott and Costello by far.

I'd have put really good money on you saying this :-)

I like 'who's on first' very much, but Lou's mugging (like Jim Carrey's and Jerry Lewis') grates on my nerves too much to be able to watch them these days. I loved them when I was a kid, though.

I just see a blank screen here, but am ridiculously excited about getting home... :yay:

i love The Boys, in my youger days i was a member of the local tent.
so much to choose from, but i think,Ollie the Eighth,Murder Case and the Music Box are my favourites.
theres a local Stan and Ollie connection here, stan went to school at Rutherglen Academy, just down the road from here, and in the late 40's the both of them stayed at Harry Lauders house, again just a few miles away.

And Stan (the brains of the outfit) was English apparently.

When I was a kid I thought they were genius, especially the film with the escalating revenge sequence....

Nowadays I'm not so keen on slapstick but they and Keaton still get a forelock tug from yours truly

I really like Jim Carrey.

Not so much Jerry Lewis

I was looking at some of them a few minutes ago. One I found sad was this one. Seeing Oliver so thin and old was depressing for some reason.

That is sad, Jeff, it's true - but it's also heartening to see what great friends they remained...I'm one of those folks who can't fully divorce reality from art in this regard...I could never watch CHIPS after finding out how much the leads loathed one another

An odd segue, but.

A couple of decades ago, I taped a showing of Comic Book Confidential off of the Discovery Channel. It just so happened that following that program, DC showed a documentary about the Laurel & Hardy fan organization, The Sons of the Desert.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of the boys, I enjoy seeing people enjoy anything as much as I enjoy comics.

Agreed. It's disheartening to see that kind of "behind the scenes" stuff, especially as it seems to be very common. Nice that these two were clearly not like that.

Speaking of which, does anybody remember The Imposters? Almost all the film reviewers spoke of the uncanny similarity between the first names of the leads Stanley Tucci and Oliver Platt, and Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy..

They're great.
And in the 70s there was a cartoon about them. By Hanna & Barbera i think :)

That cover would have completely freaked me out when I was a kid...

There were all sorts of odd cartoons when I think back - there was an Abbot and Costello one, a Beatles one, a Jackson 5 one - all a bit Scooby Doo weren't they? Not to mention Batfink which was just a bit 'gone to the cleaners'
