"True Lies" is a guilty pleasure movie for me. I know it's not really his best, but I have a soft spot for it.

My favorite may be The Abyss, a stunning movie especially in surround sound.

Aliens. It's a perfect film, and contends with Empire Strikes Back as the best sequel ever made.

It is a pleasure that is not guilty. One of his best.

A dancing Jamie Lee avatar from True Lies would not be a bad thing.

By the way, I didn't realize this in 1997 but I do realize this now. James Cameron needs somebody else to do his writing for him. Avatar was a beautiful film and I should have been furious that it was passed over for Best Picture. I couldn't, because Cameron's writing never let me see the people on screen as anything more than two-dimensional characters. It would be a much different story with The Lord of the Rings and Gravity . (Although in all due fairness, the best lines in LOTR came directly from Tolkien.)

One more thing. I think in hindsight, George Lucas' true passion is in creating the characters of his "Star Wars" universe and new special effects. James Cameron---for all of his faults as a writer---is a true filmmaker, and his films are shot dramatically in a way that Lucas' films aren't.

For me, it's a toss-up between T2 and Aliens.

As great as T2 is, it has to be Aliens. He took a great concept, flipped it, and made it his own, all the while turning out a great movie.
