Just wondering, for those who sleep at night...do you have dreams? And if you do, what do you dream about? I'm just curious what people dream about and whether they can remember their dreams.

So people who sleep during the day can't play?

No. I meant people who sleep in general. Like, anybody who actually sleeps, which, I guess is most people. But it could be day or night, Jeff.

How long have you not slept?

Yes. I usually dream about being in a place that is an amalgam of various familiar places from my own past... like my old home town, but with my current home in place of the house I grew up in or my old high school with rooms in it that are compartments from my old submarine.

Interesting, Darin. Do you ever dream that you're younger? Like, the same age you were when you used to live in those places before?

Some people tell me that they fly in their dreams, but every dream I can remember where I "flew" it was like a scene from The Greatest American Hero... I'd fly for a few seconds and then fall again or it was hard to do.

In my dreams I'm usually around 30 years old. Thanks to my Navy hitch, I was still in college when I turned 32... so those school settings are still age appropriate.

When I was an insecure teenager, I used to have the "Oh no, I'm all of the sudden naked in school" dreams where I'm trying to get out of the school building without anyone seeing me and trying to cover myself along the way. My dad used to tell me that he had a recurring dream throughout his life where he could run on all fours and could pass cars on the freeway.

That's interesting. And it makes sense as well.


Btw, I've heard some people actually dream in black and white. That seems kinda odd.

There isn't a lot of color in my dreams that I can remember either. It's there sometimes, I think... but I never remember the color.

Oh, ages now. it must be...fourteen, even fourteen and a half hours!

Wow! I wonder why that is.

They say if you fall off a cliff or a building in your dreams and land you'll die. But how does anybody know that? If everyone who's had that dream has died...then who's around to confirm it?

I dream regularly, but no longer remember them with the same clarity or frequencey as I did in the past. You really have to train yourself to retain those impressions from the dream state. I used to keep pen and paper on the nigthstand.

Most recent dream I can remember: My wife comes in, wakes me up, and tells me the dog has been hit by a car so I immediately leap out of bed and run outside to see if there is anything I can do. One of those "false waking" dreams.

My dreams used to be a little more wild and unrestrained, full of bizarre places and beings. Not so much of that these days, but I still periodically experience the full range of pseudo-psychic phenomena in my dreams: flying, levitation, visions of the future, communing with ghosts, telekinesis, etc. I can only assume it is to the world's benefit that I am not as powerful as this in the waking world.

I can remember dreams immediately after I wake up, sometimes, but they fade quickly unless I write them down. Which I don't.

My dreams aren't playroom-safe.

Same. Often as I struggle to retain the memory of a dream I can feel it slipping away even faster. Once in a while I'll dream something that I must write down, a fascinating story or something, but usually I just go on with my day.

Interesting. Do you ever dream of songs that you haven't heard before and write them down, Jeff?

I dream about electric sheep for some reason.
