I think there already was a thread about this.

But it's ok. I like both lists, minus a few quibbles here and there.

Frank Miller with the highest combined writer/artist ranking.

That Bill Sienkiewicz made the top 25 kind of irritates me.

I think he's talented, but I didn't think he was suited to drawing superhero comics. I hated him when he started doing New Mutants way back when. It was the only X-Men thing I ever liked and he wrecked it. I have never forgiven him for this.

I couldn't argue with the rest of the list though. Obviously, mine would be different in a few places, but it was pretty hard to argue with most of the choices.

Unless one thinks that Grant Morrison sucks donkey balls. Then him having the number two slot is a bit of an overreach.

Greg Rucka? Really? Can somebody tell me anything that he has written that is any good?

I like Jason Aaron, but it's way too early for him to make any list like this.

Brubaker would be a legend if he would just stop now. The more he writes, the worse he gets.

Matt Fraction is way overrated.

Sienkiewicz should be in the top ten.

J. H. Williams III is number 3? He must have a lot of relatives with internet access. I love his work, but I wouldn't even put him in the top 50

What an interesting list! I was pleasantly surprised to see Jaime Hernandez in the top ten. Really, I applaud the CBR readers for such a diverse selection of work from all different genres.

Oh wait. No, these lists suck.

I know, right? I mean, Byrne's 24th on the writers list, and 7th on the artists list! Don't these people know he's a writer who draws?!?!?

Scalped alone puts him a level above some of the people that made the top 25.




Way too controversial as his art is too good.

Jim Lee got more points than Will Eisner, Carl Barks, Joe Kubert and Moebius put together.

John Byrne got more points than Infantino, Wood, Toth, Wrightson and Rude combined.

Give the man credit for his hard work, please. He probably spent a day voting, clearing his cookies on his Performa, and then voting again and again.

Queen and Country and Gotham Central. Oh, and Whiteout. Most of his mainstream superhero work has been pretty forgettable, in my opinion.



I thought he was great on Chase back in the day, and he's blowing that out of the water with his Batwoman work. He's sort of a cross between the best aspects of Bill Sienkiwicz (circa New Mutants) and Neal Adams.

My top 5 writers of all time match their top 5, just not in that exact order.

My top 5 artists are way different than theirs.

My top 4 writers are in that exact order, and I generally agree with the rest of the top ten, except for Bendis and Johns.

Alan Moore would be my pick for best writer. I think decades from now guys like Morrison and Ennis will be remembered as trendy products of their times - talented but not "greats" - kinda like this generation's Denny O'Neil or Don McGregor, IMO. Guys like Ellis and Gaiman are a little less flash-over-substance and hopefully will be remembered like Steve Gerber - strong writers for any generation.

I thought Alan Moore was behind Geoff Johns, Neil Gaiman and Grant Morrison.
