My daughter has been cast as Tracy Turnblad in our city theater's Summer production of Hairspray.
She's a musical theater major in college, and this is her first starring role since high school. It's a role that she's always wanted. I was afraid that her not being heavy enough would keep her from getting the part, but she'll be wearing a "fat suit" (something she's used to doing from previous plays).
The best part is that it means she's home with us for the Summer. Now I have to carefully explain to my parents who John Waters is.

Closing the thread with a shot of my daughter winning Best Actress in a Musical at our local theater awards. She opened the ceremony with a solo performance of Good Morning Baltimore. Most of her fellow cast members were in the audience and stood to sing their parts to the song (a surprise to her, but she held back the tears until after the song). Another event this weekend... my wife's band closed our city's downtown Spring concert series as the featured band. They've played for festival crowds before, but this was about the biggest.
