From what I've read of both, I prefer Ellis.

Ellis.

Fell/Transmetropolitan/Planetary/The Authority/Global Frequency > ASS/Batman/JLA/New X-Men/Seaguy etc.

JLA > Transmet + Authority + Planetary + Global Frequency + Fell + Everything else

I'm sorry, it's math. You can't argue with science.

The first Ellis I read was his stint on Doom 2099. That was some good book. :ohyes:

Despite the above, my vote's for Morrison. For me, what it comes down to is, is Invisibles > Planetary? The former's not always a fun read, but it's startlingly fresh, complicated and thought-provoking, and it got there first before the latter. You never know, I may change my mind in the six months over the course of the Planetary Reading Club. Exciting.

I'd forgotten he did that!

I voted for Ellis simply due to Planetary. He wins by default. ;)

I was actually just going to bring up Thor -- a nearby LCS has half-offs trades and I picked up the World Engine hardcover for a mere $10. I avoided the book because I feel Deodato's art during this period is pretty crappy... has a third-rate Jim Lee vibe going here.

That said, I read it and really loved it. I thought the story was really interesting and think we missed out on a really bold new direction for a fresh, modern take on Thor had Ellis continued.

Anyone else read this?

I read it at the time it came out originally, and, yes, it was enjoyable and tantalizing in its promise of a new direction for what, it seems, had become a moribund book and tired character. I continued with the book after Ellis left even to the point that it became Strange Tales, again, when Thor got sucked into 'Heroes Reborn'.

On Deodato's art, at the time, I always thought of it as third-rate John Buscema by way of Marc Silvestri.

I've actually liked some things by Morrison I've read. Can't say the same for Ellis. Hell, Morrison wins for the Doom Force special alone.

They're about the same with me as far as hits and misses... but I give the edge to Morrison because he actually seems to like superheroes while Ellis kinda sneers at them.
Plus Ellis best stuff doesn't touch Animal Man #1-26, still my favorite Morrison work.

I went Ellis... while I really like Morrison's JLA and Superman, his Batman and X-Men runs were kinda off the mark for me. With Ellis, I pretty much enjoy everything he does -- and he doesn't just do good takes on old heroes, he's created some really decent stuff in Authority, Planetary, and the Avatar books.

I like Ellis doing his own creations, and dislike him doing DC & Marvel heroes.

Ellis wins.

(Plus Transmetropolitan and Fell are better than anything I've ever read by Morrison.)
