What about this costume says it's a fresh start for the Batman film franchise? Nothing ... it's in the same sculpted rubber bathtoy style as the '90s films, the title of the movie is in the same vein as the previous series, he even has the stupid black shoepolish around his eyes. And the BUV ("Bat Utility Vehicle") is a lousy Batmobile, in my li'l opinion. Why bother? The fan films look aeons better than this '90s throwback stuff. Everything we've seen of Batman Begins so far seems to indicate that it's not a fresh start, not a reboot of the franchise, but simply a prequel to the Keaton films.

I must say, I was more interested in the film when they just had the burlap bat symbol up. There was something visceral about the idea of the first costume being sewn out of junk just lying around the garage - Lots of thick, black leather for protection with the proto-bat symbol sewn on the chest and a chunky backpack full of cobbled together proto-bat tools.

Then as he got into it more, got more experienced and knew more what he needed, the suit and the gear would get streamlined and better engineered. That is what I had been hoping for.

Yowch. That does look pretty bad.

It is the curse of having too much costume budget and not enough ideas. Didn't they spend some amazing amount of money for something like a dozen Bat-Suits?

Why can the guys at Corolla studio get it right, with the Dead End costume (and World's Finest), and the studios can see it in action, yet still screw it up.

Floridian people, we need to make our own film, with Linda as Batgirl.

You'd need someone 20 years younger. But how about Mike Nebeker as the Green Hornet? Mike's already a professional actor.

Anybody remember the first storyarc of 'Legends of the Dark Knight' - the costume was more of a brown and grey - kind of a cool idea for a first suit, and could easily be done as leather and kevlar, I think (if they were still not wanting to go with the fan film costumes, just out of...I dunno, spite or something).

I hope you weren't referring to yourself, with the 20 years younger. From what I've seen you look like Batgirl.

I loved Batman: Dead End. It remains by favorite visualization of a movie Batman.

But, let's face it: Batman is gonna get shot at. The fact that he wore some sort of bullet-arresting device was addressed as far back as Batman number one when the Joker pumped leap into him and marvelled that Batman wouldn't fall "Hasn't the Joker ever of a bullet-proof vest?".

What I deplore most about the Bale costume is that it does not look primitive or jury-rigged -- like a Batman Year one costume should. It looks like something that was specifically designed to be a Batman costume. I've got a hold of the shooting script so I have of fair idea of how it will be explained away in the film but it's a shame that Bruce Wayne wasn't allowed to assemble his inaugural combat attire from his personal experience. The costume is an assembly of rejected Wayne Tech experiments ... including the cape which is made of material intended for use in hostile environment shelters.

The Batmobile is more of the same. Goen are the days when Bruce Wayne would build his own Batmobile.

Sounds similar to the Green Goblin's suit and glider coming from Oscorp's experimental programs.

if it is, then this movie is going to kick major buttocks!
Bale is perfect for this role, & every interview with Goyer
that I've read shows an extreme reverance for the
character & his origin story. So I'm very optimistic.

Batman Begins in 2005, then Superman Returns in
2006. The next 2 summers are gonna rock!

I could not disagree more. Its fantasy people. And you could armor it with Kevlar without it looking like Iron Man. personally, I always though the cape was Kevlar and was used for protection.

Let's be honest about this folks - nobody gives a toss what comic fans think - we make up a tiny amount of the people who watch those movies.

No modern audience is going to take to that Collorastudios outfit - it's basically a muscleman in a greyshirt.

Again, I could not disagree more. It has been shown that, more often than not, faithful interpretations are more successful. See Spiderman. While it wasn't anywhere near perfect, they captured the spirit and it was his costume out there.

My feeling is that with the budgets the film-makers have it would be (as far as I can tell) sooooo very easy to just film it "right". The comic-book fans would be happy and the general audience wouldn't know the difference. It just bugs me when the film-makers make changes to the source material for no other reason than just to make changes. It never fails to amuse me that so many of "us" get positively giddy that Hollywood has deigned to look in our direction and throw some shiny shit on the screen that we're supposed to fawn all over. But somehow, I'm an asshole because I'd just like to see it done right.
