What do you mean? You think they'll fire Morrison over this?

Maybe not this, but I think it shows a few cracks in the Morrison/DC relationship.

I think as long as he's one of their best-selling writers, he'll be fine.

They were still willing to work with Moore on Before Watchmen after decades of him bad-mouthing them harshly... and I bet if he suddenly had a change of heart, they'd welcome him back with open arms.

Maybe not. DC still believes that their properties (the characters) are what sell books, not the talent.

Anyway, it's something Rafael should celebrate, not dread. Whatever Morrison does outside of DC's heavy-handed intrusion would surely be more to his liking.

Actually, yeah. I got pretty much all I wanted from Morrison with DC properties, I don't really need more. I'd like him to do his own thing now and achieve success outside comics at least as much as his former, infinitely lesser half (Millar).

Morrison's own creations don't seem to do as well. Sea Guy and Joe the Barbarian didn't exactly light the world on fire.

Is Joe the Barbarian good? I saw the HC in the library.

I haven't gotten around to reading my copy of Joe the Barbarian, but I LOVE Sean Murphy's art.

Neither does 95% of the crap Millar writes, but a couple of options was all what was needed.

I remember Wanted being a pretty popular book in the indie world before it was optioned.

As far as whether Kick-Ass, Supercrooks or Superior would be successful without options -- who knows, but the bottom line is that they were popular.

But what do you know? You think Geoff Johns is a better writer than Alan Moore.

Maybe Morrison is burning his Bridge with DC because he has secretly patched up his differences with Millar........and is going over to Millar's imprint

Well, I never said that they were good -- I just mentioned that none of Morrison's self-created efforts really became a big deal and then Rafael brought up Millar. The whole topic was popularity, not quality.

You little bitch.

They're ok but are very good in terms of targeting the fans desires. They are very calculated.

They're actually just pretty good altogether (Millarworld comics). My only gripe is the over-the-top violence and language.

But almost all of them are very inventive and fresh. I think you guys should hop on with Super Crooks and Secret Service.

I feel that he has built a strong fanbase with popular projects on Marvel's properties -- Ultimates, Wolverine: Enemy of the State & Old Man Logan, Ultimate X-Men, Civil War, etc. -- and has kept a lot of that fanbase interested in his creator-owned stuff by doing projects that are simple "high concept" ideas that are easy-to-understand.

Wanted was created when he watched the first Spider-Man film and said, "Hey, what if we take that character arc and apply it to a villain?"

Kick-Ass seemed to take the Spider-Man "nerd into superhero" concept and mashed it up with the old "if you actually tried to be a superhero, you'd get your ass kicked" bit of deconstruction. Big Daddy was the old "Batman would have to be a crazy guy would fight crime and bring along a little kid" thing.

Nemesis was him looking at Batman and saying, "Hey, what if he was evil?" It seemed to be the same train of thought as Wanted, only with Batman instead of Spider-Man.

Superior was the old " Tom Hanks' 'Big' meets superheroes" thing that people have been suggesting for Captain Marvel since that movie came out.

I haven't read or know anything about Supercrooks but I'm going to assume it's a "Ocean's 11" heist story done with supervillains.

I think he's figured out a formula that works for him and a lot of his fans, so it's cool that he's got his own thing going. As far as the opver-the-top violence and language -- I imagine that's a large part of the appeal for his fans. All the shocking "Holy Shit!" moments.

Exactly right, like I said, calculated.
