Just got done watching the season premiere, "New Earth."
Interesting...it had a much more old-school Who feel than the last season. The plot kind of reminded me of Revelation of the Daleks. Some of the incidental music was reminiscent of Dudley Simpson's stuff during Tom Baker's tenure.
Great moments:
Jackie: "I love you"
Rose: "I love you."
Mickey: "Love You."
Rose: "Bye."
The Doctor: "Watch out for the disinfectants!"
Rose: "The what?"
The Doctor: "The disinfectants!"
Rose: "What?"
The Doctor: "The...oh, you'll find out."
The Doctor: "Yep. Still got it."
Cassandra: "Oh, chav-tastic."
The Doctor: "That is enigmatic. That-that is-that is textbook enigmatic."
I give it an 8 1/2 out of 10.

That is good news. I've really been enjoying the Eccleston shows on Sci-Fi!

They released a THREE MINUTE trailer with clips from the next five episodes.
Rose & Sarah Jane try to one-up each other with what they've seen (SJS wins).
K9 vs Rupert Giles!
Did I mention the Cybermen?

Tremendous amount of fun. Last season they seemed to have been bridging the gap from the more serious fare of the end of McCoy's run, with The Doctor being a bit more blood-thirsty than he usually was. Eccleston seemed to be laughing on the outside, crying on the inside.
Now, we're in full adventure mode with The Doctor fully enjoying his wanderings (probably the first time since Tom Baker). Decent amount of rolling Continuity with The Face Of Bo and Cassandra, but I think they handled it pretty good. Obviously, The Face Of Bo is going to be a big deal later in the season (making his assorted appearances last season a bit of a teaser) and they re-introduced Cassandra pretty quickly and in an entertaining manner. Had me a bit worried seeing both of them in there, but it felt pretty Newbie friendly.
Plot resolution was a bit... convienent; but it was so much fun I don't care. Yup, feels a lot like those old Baker episodes. Can't tell you how many times the plot fell apart at the end, but you loved it anyway.

Rupert Giles was a character on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ played by Anthony Head.

In a move of great suckitude, they're holding off until the fall, instead of airing each episode just a week and a half behind the Brits, like last year.

He's also the guy from the Taster's Choice/Nescafe Gold Blend ads in the late '80s. He's playing the headmaster of the school in episode 3. His older brother is Murray Head, who sang the hits "(Jesus Christ) Superstar" and "One Night In Bangkok."

Episode 2, "Tooth and Claw" ran last night, and after a so-so opener, now we're cookin' with gas!
The prologue is a balls-to-the-wall fight scene with Scottish monks beating the crap out of some farmers, Crouching Tiger style. They got the fight coordinator from Batman Begins to choreograph it.
Plus, the Doctor loses ten pounds and we see what he'd wear to an Ian Dury & the Blockheads show!
Nine and three-quarters out of ten.

I guess it’s too early to start the speculation as to whether this will be pickup by some network.

Sci Fi has an option on this season. US Ratings have been decent if not blockbuster. I'd be very surprised if they don't exercise the option.
I should mention that "Tooth And Claw" is probably the scariest Who story since "Earthshock" if not "Pyramids of Mars."

What's so scary about an annoying sidekick getting the chop?

I'm more thinking of the first episode with the androids who liquefy people.

Maybe it was because I was 35 and not 10, but I just found "Earthshock" to be a total bore. Just more of the Continuity-Obsessed (without actually getting it right half the time) 80s Who. A shame, because I went in expecting the Davison years to be pretty good.

Just got done watching School Reunion...
Wow. That is just an example of why this show's so great. Lis Sladen was exactly what the show needed her to be. A great story, both for its sci-fi plot, as well as the human drama.
Great bits:
Oh, my God! I'm the tin dog!
You've regenerated! Half-dozen times by now.
Aberdeen!
You could spend the rest of your life with me, but I can't spend the rest of my life with you.
Forget the shooty-dog thing.
Somebody else's grandkids, by now. [That was more heartbreaking than great - I'd have figured she'd settle down with Harry or Benton, although it shows how special she was. Most of the Who girls leave to marry some guy she just met, but not My Sarah Jane!]
This show is firing on all cylinders. Bring on the French robots!
