Apart from cancelled/ended series, have any DC or Marvel titles survived without ever having published a second #1 issue?

Fables is at #135 and the highest DC title if it's counted as DC and not Vertigo. In the comic book sales charts it is listed as a DC book.

When I was a kid I would figure out how old I was going to be when Action Comics hit #1,000, and Adventure and Detective...

I'm fine with renumbering, as long as the trades are numbered so I know what order to follow them all in. What's that? You say they don't number the trades anymore?
Well, shit.

They'll probably have a 1,000 issue double-sized commemoration issue anyway.

Of course they will.
If the renumbering even stays for that long.

The renumbering doesn't bother me so much.
However, it would bother me if I weren't one of the top tier artists/writers. Many times when a book is renumbered/rebooted/launched, the company will get their name artists and writers for those first few issues. Then, after all of the sweet royalties from those collectible issues are gone, the second-string has to come in and make a book that will endure past the novelty while the select few can move on to another relaunch.

There was a time when Avengers reaching #100 before Justice League did was a big deal (since JLA was there first, but didn't have ongoing monthly issues as Avengers did). I'd hope that it would be a prestige thing, having your comic in the 1,000's.

I could probably dig up multiple previous IMWAN screenames all advocating this idea. It's long past time for comics to give up the idea that "the last 50 years of comics counts." Oh, stop yourself. Of course it doesn't. "Continuity" is a cancer. It doesn't need to be, but people are so OBSESSED with it that it has become one. So either tell endless stories that magically forget anything that happened more them three or four years before, or periodically reboot. Either way, tell people to F off with this nonsense. Get on with telling great stories and stop worrying about contradicting the Starbucks order Peter made in issue 276b!
