From that interview:

Yeah, I know that people think I've been terribly mean to the poor little American comics industry. It's so unfair when you think about it, isn't it, that you've got a barely-educated fuck from the English midlands picking upon this huge multinational corporation. You know, I ought to be ashamed of myself.

This is quite fantastic.

It is some epic PWNage, fo' sho'.

If you say so, but that wasn't what my post was about. I just find it funny that every time somebody asks Alan what he thinks about comics nowadays, he tends to start off with "I don't have anything to say about the industry", and then prattles on for several paragraphs about what he thinks about it.

So you're saying that you wish Alan Moore would DIAF, along with his wife and family?

Seems pretty harsh, but I don't know how else to interpret your post.

Fraxon's thirst for blood is only exceeded by his thirst for a complete run of Fantastic Four.

True, in retrospective, Alan Moore has written much better comics than Grant Morrison, Neil Gaiman and Geoff Johns ever have.

Now you're talking sense again.

I'm fairly sure you just made up that. The giveaway is that I'm not saying I'm retrospective.

So close to victory, and yet..it slipped through your fingers.

Trevor would no doubt come here to sing From Hell's praises.

I would say that, while obviously not nearly in the same galaxy in terms of his influential Watchmen was, I like a lot of his ABC work as much, or more, than Watchmen.

Agreed. Also, Voice of the Fire, although that's a prose novel so maybe not relevant if one is just talking about funnybooks.

My editing instincts got the better of me. Curses!

You're right, you didn't say any of that. You still have crappy taste in comic book writers.

I won't apologize for liking Chris Claremont.

Impossible. If that were the case, you would have used a phonetically spelled-out Cajun accent.

I'm ashamed to say I never quite learned how to do that.

Yes. My point was that he was saying that he'd shown them how to do it.

The thing about Alan Moore's douchebaggery is that it's witty and funny. He's descended into Byrne levels of hatred and bile, but unlike Byrne, he's actually smart and clever, and he knows how to communicate ideas via the written word.

If we can stop ruining IMWAN for a second...

I disagree. Yes, those are better written rants, but they are getting as old and boring as Byrne's.

I think a bit of it it's an act, he's playing the part of Wronged Author because now that is expected of him. I find it boring, true, but I don't think that's really what makes him douchey. His quarrels with his collaborators? I think that is where his true Douchery resides.

Did you guys read that entire new interview? There are some gems in there.

Quote:
Yeah, sure, they're welcome to recycle my old ideas but they mustn't expect me not to comment upon how lame that makes them look.

Quote:
We did The League of Extraordinary Gentlmen, because it was a story that we wanted to tell. ... We didn't do it because we were told by our publishers to do it.

Quote:
And then, of course the attitude--and I probably shared in this when I first started working for American comics--the attitude now is that it's just toys in the toy box, isn't it? You get to play with your favorite toys from the DC or Marvel toy box. Yeah, I don't want to do that anymore. Those toys were pried out of the fingers of dead men, and were pried from their families and their children. That's just wrong.

And the one about the "uneducated fuck from the English midlands" of course. :)

I dunno, I still think he's hilarious. He's repetitive because they keep asking him the same stuff (as you've pointed out before, Hanzo). Once Before Watchmen is no longer news, he'll start talking about other things and probably still be really interesting.

Just my opinion.

Alan Moore thinks he's bigger than comics, and it turns out he's not bigger than comics.

We will enjoy our Halloween costumes made out of Watchmen characters, and there's naught you can do to stop us, Beard-man!
