Those exact words? No.

But I think he's referencing the outrage fanboys spew whenever he criticizes DC or Marvel Comics.

I think that may be a reference to those who point out that Moore hasn't read an American comic book since 1990 and he doesn't have a problem with declaring all of it is shit.

I know. Only 99.5% of it is shit. He needs to get his fucking facts straight.

One important thing I want it note is that, upon further consideration, I've decided to once again demote Alan Moore in my list of favorite writers, this time to fourth place.

Geoff Johns, take your EARNED spot.

Yes. When I read the quote I thought, "Let the rending and gnashing of teeth commence!"

From that interview:

Yeah, I know that people think I've been terribly mean to the poor little American comics industry. It's so unfair when you think about it, isn't it, that you've got a barely-educated fuck from the English midlands picking upon this huge multinational corporation. You know, I ought to be ashamed of myself.

This is quite fantastic.

It is some epic PWNage, fo' sho'.

If you say so, but that wasn't what my post was about. I just find it funny that every time somebody asks Alan what he thinks about comics nowadays, he tends to start off with "I don't have anything to say about the industry", and then prattles on for several paragraphs about what he thinks about it.

I don't mean it was PWNage to you, just PWNage in general when people whine about Alan Moore's opinions, instead of, you know, ignoring them.

I think we should better use our energies by whining about those who whine about Alan Moore's opinions.

Who's wih me?

I think he's pre-emptively martyring himself to deflect any criticism that he's a) whining, b) a douche bag, c) really fucking pompous, and d) all of the above.

For my mind, you get to be really fucking pompous when you write something as good as Watchmen, which is why I asked the question earlier. However, it's not exclusive, and you can reach a tipping point where your pomposity drops into douchebaggery.

If you're raging against The Machine for acting like The Machine, what are you really raging against, and how impotent does that make you?

And if you're raging against the guy who's raging against The Machine*, how impotent does that make you?

(And apparently "raging" doesn't mean lawsuits, calling for boycotts, etc. -- it means answering questions in interviews honestly.)

I said that, as far as Watchmen was concerned, I didn’t really think that there was any talent in the mainstream comics industry. If there had have been, they presumably, sometime over the past 20 or 25 years, would have perhaps come up with something that was as good as Watchmen–or as notable or as memorable–after they’d already been shown how to do it.

I'm starting not to like this guy.

He's correct. (But it wouldn't be cool for Gretsky to go around telling people how much everyone else in hockey sucks.)

The Catch-22 is that if someone had come up with something memorable after being shown how to do it, they'd be labeled as a hack for following Moore's template.

You can create something memorable that's completely unlike Watchmen.

True, I'm retrospective, only Alan Moore has ever written good comics.
