I know I had put forth the shotgun theory, with each creator bringing one aspect of Moore to the table.

I'm not angry at DC doing what it always does (its like being angry at rain for being wet), I'm just mystified why they didn't do it 20 years ago. Coupled with DC's offer to give Watchmen back, I just believe that there's some language in the contract that worried the legal department. DC has never jumped through these kinds of hoops to not piss off a creator they had already pissed off.

20 years ago, that would be 1992, right? I'm not sure a Watchmen prequel/sequel would've done well at this time. When did the Death of Superman get planned?

Also I think everyone is right about Levitz was vetoing it back then. Notice that after he stepped down, DC went full speed ahead with a lot of things, like the relaunching/rebooting after Flashpoint, the reprinting of Warren Ellis' Shoot story from Hellblazer and Morrison's Flex Mentallo, and now the Before Watchmen project.

Flex Mentallo was only ever out-of-print because of a Charles Atlas lawsuit. When the court ruled that it was protected as parody, they went forward with the original plan to collect it.

They ruled it as parody back in 2000. I don't think they announced they were collecting it until around 2011? Though they did reprint all of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol a couple years back.

MTV Geek has been given the first four Before Watchmen solicitations by DC Comics. And while we’ve already seen all the covers and creators, the text brings much to chew over. Including these quotes for each title and the artists of the variant covers… including Jim Lee drawing a cover for each one.

Oh and each comic wll be $3.99. It’s worth remembering however that the original Watchmen used every page of the 32 page comics to tell their story, including the four pages of the cover. It is possible Before Watchmen may do the same.

There will also be $4.99 Combo editions, including a code to download a digital version.

Minutemen: “Little did we know that the poor boy would lead to the end of us all.”

Silk Spectre: “Oh sweetie, you’re too young to hate. Wait until you’re older and the world gives you a good reason. Trust me, it won’t let you down.”

Comedian: “I’m a funny guy…”

Nite Owl: “The hero known to the public only as Nite Owl announced his retirement today.”

No offense, but I wouldn't need to change the quotes if you had said what was in your heart from the beginning.

Surely anyone who's going to buy this is going to trade-wait, right?

I hope not. We need to support this as much as we can from the beginning to ensure DC will release as many prequels, sequels and sidequels as possible.

I didn't realize sidequels were on the table. That, I like the sound of.

I will buy all of it now.

Well, of course you will. It has been well established that you don't care about skullfucking Moore.

$3.99? Fail. Trade wait was always my choice anyway, but that price point is just too much for a freaking comic book. $2.99 is too much.
