INFO: The Voice of Ditko – From “Masters of the Comic Book Industry” VHS

In 1989 Steve Ditko did something that few fans would expect him to do… he revealed his voice!

For those of you who don’t know there are only 4 or so photos known to exist of Steve Ditko (in the public domain) and the choice to reveal his voice was unexpected and a cultist's dream.

The recording itself was recorded and released for the VHS video “Masters of Comic Book Art”. It showcases art from the likes of Will Eisner (whom Ditko was a fan), Jack Kirby (whom Ditko worked with for decades) and Frank Miller (who wrote Sin City and 300). It is a revealing speech by Ditko on his objectivist beliefs and the law of identity.

It's funny that whenever you talk about Ditko, you have to bring up Kirby. Yet when Kirby fans talk Kirby... Ditko isn't mentioned nearly as often.

It was a joke for you, Doosh.

Fascinating. Ditko seems to have slight Eastern European accent.

I expected a nasally shrill voice like the dad on Alf.

Finally got to hear it now... it sounds different than I'd expect; far more masculine and "joe average" that I thought it would (for reasons I don't even know).

Hypnotic. Ditko's a kind of Lucretius. Anybody's worked out a transcript of this?

This sounds like a great name for a Movie Serial.

Strangely, I expected a cross between Allen Ginsberg and Jim Morrison with a touch of Bela Lugosi.

But he sounds interesting.
