Who has checked out the one shot with Batman and Doc Savage?

I snapped it up only because it was Doc Savage, but I learned this was a preview issue for a whole line of DC comics coming in early 2010 called "First Wave.'

The conceit seems to be that the world is set shortly after WWII. Batman has guns. Doc Savage is the supreme hero, at least in the eyes of the public.

It's all very pulpy. Like zeppelins and art deco and stuff.

The Spirit will be in this world.


Also the Blackhawks, Justice, Inc., Black Canary, and Rima the Jungle Girl.

I've been following the promotion about this series at DC Universe: The Source and it looks pretty cool - Rags Morales is on art chores. I've ordered the one shot and I'll be ordering the series as well.

I missed the chance to see this - it sold out much faster than I expected! I'm hoping I can order a restock on Monday.

There are extensive creator notes and character sketches in the back of this one shot.

It sounds really good. Especiallly Doc Savage. They're keeping his whole crew intact.

The Spirit's sidekick Ebony is going to be a female.

Hollywood wins again.

From the notes, I think they're switching it to female to counteract the stereotypical history of the character.

Thanks for the notice; my LCS ran out but signed me up for when they get new copies in. I love the idea of a gun-toting pulp style Batman.

So far, the concepts seem interesting. Batman with guns will be a deviation, Black Canary will be somewhat different.

This is strongly appealing to me. Been a while since I could say that about any comic.

Do you know how many things I'll have to buy to follow it? Is it one thing called "First Wave?" Or will I have to buy multiple titles?

One thing would be nice.

(But I would buy a Doc Savage stand alone title).

I picked up the Batman/Doc Savage special mostly due to the Phil Noto art. The story interested me, and I'll probably pick up The First Wave #1 in March. That said though, I'm pretty disappointed that Noto won't be involved.

Finally read Bats/Doc and I quite liked it though the story was a bit thin. Loved the art and the interplay between the two main characters. I hadn't heard anything about this First Wave stuff, so that was a nice surprise. A small quibble: the First Wave logo should look more retro and less Infinite Crisis-ish.

Rags on art is a huge win for this series!

This looks fun. Missed the Doc Savage/Batman book, though -- my LCS sold out.

Finally read it, and it was very cool. I'll be checking out the other books.

Anyone read this yet? It looks promising as long as they don't expand this little universe.

I enjoyed it... they are expanding it a bit. 'First Wave' (with art by Rags) features this retro Bats, Doc, Black Canary, The Spirit and a couple others. There is a thread about this somewhere...
