Yeah, this. I'll grant I haven't rewatched it since it first came out, but at the time, the only message I recall finding in it was maybe "Black people love shrimp."

Me too.

I thought Gump was overly sentimental in parts, likeable in other parts. It was just a movie.

I still haven't bothered to see Avatar.

So the message that APPLE was a company backed by a moron isn't a strong one?

Well, short of writing a boringly long and 'worthy' thesis on it, all I can say is - 'watch it again.' This time do so with the question in your mind: 'what world view does this movie endorse?' Maybe you'll come away thinking, Evans is nuts - there is no overt agenda here. But maybe NOT. :D

Unlike many here, it's not like I haven't seen this film several times and recently, so I doubt I'd came away with a fresh perspective of having just seen it after decades, or with added years of experience under my belt. About the only way I'd see it, maybe, is if somebody pointed out specific things in it and I could see them and agree/disagree they are really there or intended. So I still don't see the problem with the movie. I like it and I think it deserved the awards it won.

OK so 'Evans is nuts'. Clearly, I think you are missing a substantial subtext. You don't. Many on here agree with you, it seems. OK again. But I think you are wrong while you are thinking that you are right. Epically wrong. So there. I don't think my posting chapter-and-verse on why you're (IMO) wrong will do much about that, really. But I don't think I'M wrong, obviously, or I'd think differently.

+1

It's so far from realistic in places that it's hard to take it seriously.

If I'm remembering correctly, the book is even less realistic. On top of all of Forrest's other achievements (star football player, war hero, shrimpin' guru, drinker of MANY Dr. Peppers, etc) he is also an amazing harmonica player. Like, professional level.

I've also seen it recently. It's a movie I've watched and re-watched, it being one of my favorites. If I went in to it LOOKING for some sort of conformist subtext, maybe I'd find it. But I certainly think it is a huge stretch.

I was at a Christmas party last night, and a friend of mine was telling us about this long-time friend of his that leads a dream life -- he's a genius, etc. Ran down all the things he's done, including a major role with Pixar in getting them where they wanted to be on computer rendering stuff. (In fact, bringing up Pixar is what started him telling us about him)>

Anyway, he said he was the lead designer for Avatar.

Without thinking or missing a beat, I kind of scrunched up my nose and said "I didn't like that."

It was kind of awkward. He recovered. But my social skills were in full force.

Did he gasp audibly?

It seems we have missed the true purpose of this thread.

Did Hanzo watch Avatar again or not?

I'm not curious enough about what Evans finds objectionable in Forest Gump to commit copyright infringement to find out.

Maybe the subliminal message of the movie was "don't pirate this movie," and the bastards got to me.

Do you mind explaining to me what I said that was stupid?
Or would you prefer to make lame ass jokes about it?
