Only the first syllable matters. There can be peace on the second syllable, rhyming with either "john" or "pan."

I can't think of another word that begins with "IM" where you pronounce it "EYEM"... you EYEMwan people are nuts. And maybe dangerous.

That's probably the reason my eye picked it up as rhyming with "him." When a word starts with "im," it's almost always pronounced that way. Examples -- impossible, imprudent, impotent, impertinent. I think the people that say "I'm wan" just always saw it as that play on words of "I'm one."

When you think about it, a schism over the pronunciation issue is perfect for IMWAN. Considering that the founding vision was a schism over whether Iron Man should have a nose.
