Well, played, DC. Well played. Would you say you're now driving the bus for this reboot?

Wow.....that's really just not good. I didn't really care for the costume changes or the art itself when it showed just four characters, and it's even worse with the other three, especially Cyborg.
Really, just ugly. With a capital "ugh."

Well, played, DC. Well played. Would you say you're now driving the bus for this reboot? Waiting until the status of Batman Inc is confirmed to make that decision.

Batman's cape from his shoulder does not match what is behind.
Okay. That settles it. I'm becoming a DC artist.

I'm puzzled by the inclusion of Cyborg more than his look.
Does that mean he's a JL founder now? A new hero? Or he's keeping his "promotion" to the JL while keeping his Titans history?

Also, he says that there will be 52 #1s in September. An examination of DC's books shows that there are currently only 30 ongoing DCU titles. I'd wager that only about half of these 52 new titles will be monthlies, perhaps even less. The rest will be limited series which will not be available in digital format. They're trying to have it both ways; digital subscriptions, yet also a large number of titles that you can only get in comics shops.
I don't believe this will work long-term. Digital subscribers will demand more content for their money, and once all of their comics become available digitally, the comics shop will die. I think you nailed it with the "ongoing." But I think it's a good idea to put some stuff in the comics shops only. Some things that will make that channel viable. Why? To hedge their bets in case this is a tremendous flop. It's always good to preserve as many channels of distribution as you can, for as long as you can. So make that channel have something special about it. I was actually proposing at one time that they roll out digital with comics that are ONLY available in digital. Have it be where the two modes do not overlap. Then see which one thrives. If the digital is ready to thrive, then transition to it. It's still not clear what is going on with digital and periodicals -- magazines and newspapers have an unclear future.

I'll give JLA and Superman a shot. Other heroes... maybe, depending on creative teams.

I'm probably reading Swamp Thing, but I was doing that anyway because they brought him back.

An open letter to DC:
Let's start off with something positive. I still love these DC characters. I am excited like no one's business for the Green Lantern movie. I had hoped, even with the pieces I didn't like, that Wonder Woman would have made the fall schedule. I am aggravated that Human Target didn't get renewed.
That said, you haven't figured out how to get me into the store.
Don't misunderstand. I want to go back to the comic shop. I miss looking forward to Wednesdays. I still get the thrill I had back in 1966 when the Superman Aquaman Hour of Adventure would start.
But there's nothing in there for me. The last regularly scheduled comic book DC published for me was Power Girl, and when Palmiotti, Gray, and Conner left, so did I. I've seen the Winnick show before. And I don't like it.
When I heard the true purpose of Flashpoint I was heartened. I think a reset and distilling all of these great concepts down to their essences is needed. But you're just doing the same things you've been doing over again. Jim Lee redesigns of costumes that don't need to change. More realism. Less heroism. "Let's focus on the inner lives of the heroes."
I know that the current powers that be hate Batman '66. But there are 20 year old guys (the ones that installed my carpet) who are familiar with Batman '66, who enjoy Batman '66. But they don't read your comics. They wouldn't want to look at your comics. Part of it almost certainly is because your comics are so little like the source material that spawned Batman '66.
If you feel the need to try to hang onto your current audience, then by all means try. But maybe could you find room for done in one, angst free comic books about heroes who are good and mostly unflawed people stopping bad people from doing bad things and rescuing regular people from bad situations.
I'd love to come back. Just please find something for me to come back to. Please.
Sincerely,
James C. Taylor

Is Tiny Titans still gonna be published? It's the only DC title I buy.
