Interesting what DC's official website says are their top 30 graphic novels.

Quote:
1. WATCHMEN

2, 3, 4. THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN : THE BLACK DOSSIER, THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN VOL. 1 & VOL. 2

5. V FOR VENDETTA

6. THE SANDMAN VOL. 1: PRELUDES & NOCTURNES

7. THE SANDMAN: ENDLESS NIGHTS

8. FABLES VOL 1: LEGENDS IN EXILE

9. SUPERMAN FOR ALL SEASONS

10. ALL STAR SUPERMAN VOL. 1

11. SUPERMAN/BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES

12. BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM

13. BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN

14. BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS

15. BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN

16. BATMAN: YEAR ONE

17, 18. BATMAN: HUSH VOL. 1 & VOL. 2

19. KINGDOM COME

20. IDENTITY CRISIS

21. JLA VOL. 1: NEW WORLD ORDER

22. GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH

23. CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS

24. TRANSMETROPOLITAN VOL. 1: BACK ON THE STREET

25. PRIDE OF BAGHDAD

26. HELLBLAZER: ORIGINAL SINS

27. Y: THE LAST MAN VOL. 1: UNMANNED

28. KAMIKAZE KAITO JEANNE

29. CRAYON SHINCHAN VOL. 1

30. EX MACHINA VOL. 1: THE FIRST HUNDRED DAYS

Fascinating. Surprised by no Swamp Thing or Planetary mention.

I've read the majority of those, many in single-issue form. Haven't read:

2, 3, 4. THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN : THE BLACK DOSSIER, (read the first two volumes)

6. THE SANDMAN VOL. 1: PRELUDES & NOCTURNES

7. THE SANDMAN: ENDLESS NIGHTS

24. TRANSMETROPOLITAN VOL. 1: BACK ON THE STREET

26. HELLBLAZER: ORIGINAL SINS

28. KAMIKAZE KAITO JEANNE

29. CRAYON SHINCHAN VOL. 1

I've never even heard of the last two; presumably some manga crap.

I've read the top six.

Also, nine, fourteen and sixteen.

I actually have no interest in ever reading any of the ones I haven't yet read. Might try Sandman someday, if I can get past the art. That Black Dossier, I paged through it and can't imagine spending the time on it. I prefer a comic story, not a detailed Alan Moore Encyclopedic tome.

I love the Black Dossier, but would never recommend it to anyone. It's one of those "completists only" type of things.

But yeah, I'm like you. Everything on the list that I haven't already read, I will never read.

Oh is JLA Vol 1 the first Morrison four-parter? I guess I've read that one as well.

28. KAMIKAZE KAITO JEANNE

29. CRAYON SHINCHAN VOL. 1

30. EX MACHINA VOL. 1: THE FIRST HUNDRED DAYS

My favorite part is how I thumb my nose at that "manga crap" and Sandman, while admitting I read Identity Crisis and some of that other garbage. :)

1. WATCHMEN

5. V FOR VENDETTA

12. BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM

13. BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN

14. BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS

15. BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN

16. BATMAN: YEAR ONE

17, 18. BATMAN: HUSH VOL. 1 & VOL. 2

19. KINGDOM COME

23. CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS

There's a few on the list that I'll eventually get to, but I don't see me reading all of the Top 30.

I figured it wasn't thumb-nosing so much as, "Eh, can't be bothered." :)

I'm surprised that some of those comics have outsold The Killing Joke.

11, 20, 25, 28 and 29 are the only ones I haven't read.

Yeah, Swamp Thing should be there as should We3 and Scalped.

That can't be in any kind of sales order--otherwise why would all the Moore books be grouped and Batman books? There's no way that SUPERMAN/BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES
or BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN outsold BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS.

The site says "Here are the best-selling titles that you must read – whether you are just beginning to discover graphic novels or you are an established fan looking to expand your collection."

I'm not going to comment on the books I haven't read, but there's way too much Batman on this list.

I think it just meant that all the books on there were best-sellers, not that they were in sales order or even the 30 best-selling graphic novels DC's ever published.

Of those (among the ones there I've read), Superman for All Seasons and S/B Public Enemies are fun. League vol 2 is worth reading if you liked the first one. Arkham is beautifully painted, but a bit of a mess. I can't recommend it.
