This will end up as a quaint period piece. You will have to explain it to your grandchildren as I have to explain CB Radios to my kids.

Does it have a song as memorable as the song from Convoy? That song was pure awesomeness given musical form...at least I thought so as a kid. Seeing that movie inspired many youngsters to start using a CB radio, and to speak in an appallingly silly faux "American" accent while doing so.... until their parents caught them, anyway.....

Facebook is a hell of a lot bigger than CB Radio and I think it's likely that anyone here's grandkids will still be using it.

Facebook is a hell of a lot bigger than CB Radio and I think it's likely that anyone here's grandkids will still be using it. I do not. I think that we will be socially networked for ever (or until society collapses ) and we will communicate via the internet, but a specific brand like Facebook will only last until something newer/hotter/better comes along. The next thing will be centered around mobile devices, and an integration of traditonal broadcasting with the web. I think we will see social networking cause the death of broadcast TV as we know it within say 20 years. I think we will move toward a digital prescence that replaces phones/TV/radio/Movies where folks are broadcasting the things they create and others are picking what they like from the cloud and showing it to thier individual network of contacts. Your major broadcasting/media companies will adapt because that is where the money is, and quality programing will still be expensive to create, though not as expensive. I do think we will see the eventual death of traditional scheduling in the release of entertainment in favor of pushing it out to user created networks based on social media models.

I see the old stand-up routines (old as in three or four years ago) where the comic makes fun of Friendster being replaced by MySpace. There was a time when we thought that Yahoo had left the competition behind them. Things change.
This thread was half-meant as a joke, but I do think that in the future this movie will have (at best) the quaint feel of that You Have Mail movie.

Dear Lord. Not even as good as a Tom Hanks romantic comedy?
This movie must be a real stinker.

I remember "Convoy", CB radios, and the whole trucker-as-modern-hero fad. When my brother and one of our cousins were out of school with chicken pox at the same time they got to ride in the cousin's dad's 18-wheeler. I was so envious. I didn't get to do anything neat like that when I had chicken pox a week or two before they did!

Facebook will probably fall eventually, but I feel it has a pretty good chunk of life left in it. It's already pretty much universally used and works seamlessly with most wireless devices. It's well established in all the places it needs to be and it would take a pretty huge series of events for it to fall.

What's funny about MySpace is that the year lag between when Kick-Ass was made and released, MySpace fell out of favor with almost everyone. Its heavy use in the movie seems quaint and dated.
What's also funny is that The Social Network is getting unbelievably good reviews, comparing it to Citizen Kane even.

You know your hometown is small when its best restaurant is the local truck stop.
