Walking down part of the hall in my house, I felt some water under my foot on the hardwood floor. Didn't think much of it with 3 kids in the house. So, I was headed out into the garage anyway, but guess what I was greeted with? Water all over the floor.
Somewhere between 12:00 lunchtime today and about 7:00 pm, my hot water heater decided to start leaking water from the top - where the hot water comes out and into the house. Apparently, since it sits on a platform, and shares a wall with the hall mentioned above, water found it's way out under the sheet rock and under the hard wood floor.
Yay.
The plumber is supposed to be here sometime after 8:00 am.
I am currently taking donations.

Ouch. Sorry to hear about that.
If you wind up having to replace it, Matthew, then you really should go with a tankless system like Rinnai. It will cost a little extra up front, but you'll make it back in power savings within a year or so. Plus, you'll NEVER run out of hot water.

Aren't we lucky today Matt, the GF and I had to wait for the Roto Rooter man tonight to clear the main drain pipe that goes to the street. Last night the backup flooded our guest bathroom and we were up until midnight trying to dry the floors. I actually had to leave the house and go to the corner Shell to use the bathroom. $308.00 later, we have to wait 3-1/2 hours to run water through the line, or the root cleaner won't be as effective.

Kevin - appreciate that. I looked at the tankless, but my quote was starting at $3500. Retro fits have to upgrade the gas delivery and the ventilation. Plus with a 12 and 11 year old set of girls who don't really understand the concept that a shower should only take about 15 minutes...unlimited hot water is not my first choice. Maybe another time with that, but again, thanks.
Robert - I'm feelin' ya. I just had to drop about $90 on my wife's car for an alignment, but it was well spent. Plus it was out of inspection for about 4 months and I just had them do the oil to save me the time (I use Mobil 1 so it was costly). And now this...
Final bill - $920.00 I had a drip pan installed as well, so that tacked on about $110.

When I first read this, I was so sure you had said that the corner Shell charged you $308 to use their facilities.

This is why I prefer renting.
I don't have to worry about those types of problems.

I didn't know you could rent water heaters!

That is so weird. Yesterday (Saturday) we had Roto Rooter over in the morning, this after they promised to visit throughout the day Friday and never made it, forcing us to wait all day for nothing. Seems the central line was clogged, clogging everything in our house.
The upside is the plumber cracked the toilet while roto rooting, so he had to go out and buy us one and install it free of charge. We upgraded from a $70 crapper to a $260 crapper. The whole job cost us $340 but we got a really nice toilet out of the deal. Sucks for the plumber who lost money on the job, though. (He was working throughout the day on Friday so I don't feel too bad for him.)
