Colonel Trautman: Hows the wound? Rambo: You taught us to ignore pain, right? Colonel Trautman: Is it working? Rambo: Not really. Dont take it personal. Colonel Trautman: Thanks.

Tough one, it's a tie for me between First Blood and Rambo(2008). First Blood was a really good movie and Rambo (hopefully)gave us an ending to the Rambo story.

The last one was the only one I've ever seen all the way through, so I'll pick that one.

First Blood was a moving story of how we treat our returning vets.
The next two were gratuitous shoot-em-ups.
Haven't seen the fourth; I'm curious which category it falls into.

First Blood. It is very much an 80's action flick. There is very little dialogue in the movie.

He comes across as very likeable in interviews, but I have never had any desire to watch his movies, even as a fan of action movies in general.

Haven't seen the fourth; I'm curious which category it falls into. You aren't missing much. It's just gratuitous violence that's more graphic and more in-your-face. Just violence for the sake of violence. Don't waste your time.

Only bothered with the first one.

I want a prequel showing a young Rambo entering the military, getting trained, and going freakin' bezerk in 'Nam. It ends with him wandering off into the wet world of the Pacific Northwest, ready to get hazed by the cops and with sad, Bill Bixby Hulk music playing.

I like the one where he played a cop and spent most of the movie with a Band-Aid on his nose.

Just violence for the sake of violence. Don't waste your time. I disagree. The violence depicted in the film against the Burmese people by their own military is heart-wrenchingly real. A different social statement than the first film, but it raised the question of why we sit back and allow such atrocities to take place. Plus, the world -weary Rambo of the final film was a more interesting character to me than in 2 and 3. I think if you watch films 1 and 4 and ignore the ones in between, they would paint a very effective picture.

Well, anything would be better than the unintentionally funny Rambo III, to be sure.
What was great about First Blood was that it was somewhat believable. The second and third films turned Rambo into Superman, winning the war for us into retrospect.

Agreed.
The fourth film plays Rambo as a character instead of a caricature.

First Blood was an honest-to-God good movie about a man badly treated who went mad, with enough action to make it exciting.
Rambo: First Blood part II (lolwut) is a kickass action movie, with some inspired action scenes written by James Cameron. This one is entertaining as hell and a lot of fun.
I can't entirely discount Rambo III. It's cartoony and cheesy as hell, but that's part of its charm. It's weird how it was essentially dedicated to the Taliban, though.
Rambo is garbage. From its childish attempts at relevance to..well, that's pretty much it. The movie is 5 minutes that and Stallone shooting people from behind a .50 caliber for another 40 boring minutes.
I think I'll go with the second one.
