Cool image.
Never really a big Perez fan. I like his work ok, but it doesn't blow me away.
(Yes, I've seen how he can draw 900 characters in one panel so that each character is the size of my thumb nail. Doesn't do it for me.).
John Byrne in the 80s, I really liked his work.

Perez for me all the way. The New Teen Titans was THE book for me back in the day.

Easy vote for Byrne over here. I really like Perez' art and think he has an explosive style, but Byrne was on hand for some of my favorite 1980s books. He was often, as with Fantastic Four and West Coast Avengers, the whole show. I'm not sure he was involved in anything in the 1980s that I didn't like.

Find myself agreeing with Monk again.
I got a decent toss up for you Files. Barry vs Wally

Thanks, just got photoshop for school and decided to use it for my toss-up so I only have to post one image.
What's interesting about doing this was you can see the difference in proportions and anatomy between JB and GP's art.

I almost, ALMOST got into the DCU at that time thanks to that book. It was being mentioned in the same breath as the X-Men, and at the time I was a huge X-Men fan. Picked up a few issues and liked them, but learning a whole new (and very large) cast of characters, not to mention a whole new UNIVERSE, was too daunting.
To this day, DC continuity is a major stumbling block for me. Virtually all of the DC superhero stories I have read and liked have either been Silver Age or Elseworlds/out of continuity stuff. (Are the Loeb/Sale collaborations considered out of continuity? I don't really know, but I loved them.)

In 1980's, I thought John Byrne was better than George Perez. In the 2000's, I now think the exact opposite, in almost every conceivable aspect for comparison.

I don't think it was a contest then, and from what I've seen it's not a contest now . Perez is good, Byrne is exceptional.

I agree that it's not a contest now. Perez' work is so much better than Byrne's. In the 80s? Byrne.

Forced to agree with Matt. Love Byrnes 80s work, and it's just better than Perez at that time, despite Teen Titans. Perez has grown in a direction I prefer over Byrnes later more cartoony less detailed style, but back then, Byrne.

Byrne barely edges out Perez for me in the '80's, but both are good artists.

Perez.
I'm a DC guy, that's why.
Perez's DC folks look better than Byrne's DC folks.
That simple.
Hey, everybody who thinks IMWANkers hate JB, look at those totals at the top.

Perez in the 80s rocked.
Avengers
Justice League of America
Firestorm backups in Flash
New Teen Titans
JLA/Avengers pencilled pages
Crisis on Infinite Earths
Who's Who covers
History of the DC Universe
Wonder Woman (He brought mass appeal to Wonder Woman when no one thought it could be done)
He may not have done the quantity of books the Byrne did, but he made up for it in "Perez Rubble".
By the way, Perez in the 00's rocks, too.
