My beloved dog Logan died yesterday. He had been ill with diabetes and seizures, but had been maintaining for quite awhile. Yesterday he took a major turn for the worse and I had to have him put to sleep. He was having labored breathing and a nose bleed that stopped up his snout. It may have been the suspected brain tumor. We just don't know. But I did know that I would know when it was time, and seeing him on the floor laboring to catch a breath was it.
He was our store dog and went nearly everywhere I did, so I feel as though I have lost my shadow. I know I will get used to it eventually, but right now I feel like I have been run over by a steamroller. I just want to go home and go to bed. But bed, without the dog nested into my side or stealing my pillow, feels wrong.

My sympathies to you, Maria. I know how painful it is to lose a beloved dog. But he's suffering no more and at peace.
