This was more-or-less my family's first car that I remember. The one we had was identical to the one in this ad. Ma didn't replace this car until 1989.

I had one.
I don't blame her for keeping it as long as possible.

I can remember seeing those. But Mom and Dad both have always loved the '62 Thunderbird most, and that preference rubbed off on me.

I also learned from Mom and Dad that no Thunderbird can match this little number:

My older brother had the '77 in a sherbet green with contrasting dark green top. He was 22 and paid cash for it. In exchange for me washing it, he would allow me to use it to take my dates to high school dances. I wore out Frampton Comes Alive on the 8-Track player.

It's funny, but when I showed my dad some of these ads, he called it a "pimp car."

By today's standards, oh yeah. But back in the day (which I'm sure you remember  ) the Ford Thunderbird was considered a mid-sized vehicle.

During the gas crisis my dad bought a tiny Datsun 510. It was all about the gas mileage. Then one day he skidded past a stop sign in the pouring rain, got clipped and spun like a top until he came to a stop in a ditch. The next day he pulled up in a Chrysler Newport the size of a PT Boat.

I remember my dad having a white Chevy Impala when I was really young.

My parent's car was a used '77 Chevy Nova, former police car, painted white, so it had amazing acceleration. We got it painted bright yellow and would always get stopped by people wanting cab rides.

Oops! I was wrong. My Dad is visiting and said the car was a 65 Chevy Biscayne. Like this one except 4-door.
