DC Comics has announced Marc Guggenheim as the new ongoing writer of Justice Society of America.

The Amazing Spider-Man writer will take over writing duties on the title following the conclusion of James Robinson's current JSA/JLA crossover.

"For me, one of the advantages of working for the 'Big Two' is getting to play with the biggest toys in the sandbox," he told The Source.

"The Justice Society so fits that category, my inner fanboy is squealing with delight. I was a huge fan of the JSA back when they were ensconced on Earth-2 and I was introduced to their exploits in the pages of Adventure Comics and the annual JLA/JSA crossovers.

"Our goal is to craft a JSA run for the ages and I think we've come up with something that's revolutionary while still feeling uniquely Justice Society. Pay close attention to that second word. Big clue there."

Guggenheim was originally lined up to take over writing duties on Action Comics before the role passed to Paul Cornell.

Guggenheim and cover artist Shane Davis will join the title in October. The interior artists have yet to be announced.

His concept sounds OK but I haven't really liked anything else he has written.

I'm leaving JSA when Willingham leaves UNLESS a solid artist comes on board. I'd be happy if Merino stays. I thought this might be the series offered to JB for art duties. I would have stuck around for that.

Probably should have stopped when GJ left... or even when it relauched as Justice Society.

I dropped it during the Willingham run. I want so badly to read a good team book that's not hopelessly ensnarled in some larger crossover drama. JSA fit that bill, but it was just kind of boring.

It doesn't help that Marvel is pulling me in with all these great Avengers family books, and Thunderbolts.

Word. It never felt the same for me once Infinite Crisis hit. Bringing in the Kingdom Come characters wasn't something I appreciated either.

I haven't enjoyed the main series since Infinite Crisis.

I do love JSA: Strange Adventures though, which I think was originally done around the relaunch time, maybe? Either way, it's a favourite of mine.

And I've LOVED the first 2 issues of DC Universe: Legacies, which has featured the classic JSA.

Good stuff, shame the series is now moving past that period.

Once Johns left, it went in the toilet. Put them back on Earth 2 and left Jurgens or Levitz write them.
