My son and I met him in 2005. He was very kind to everyone at SPX that year and was sweet enough to have a short conversation with my son and to sign the portrait that Dean Haspiel had drawn of Harvey in my son's sketchbook.

He probably brought more initial attention to indie comics than anyone.

Was that Paul Giamatti 2003 American Splender film any good?

He was my favorite indy writer, and I don't read much indy, but I'd always buy the Pekar books. Still looking for American Splendor #1. RIP Harvey, and thanks for the autobiographical stories.

What will happen to his record collection?

RIP Harvey.

Judah Friedlander should've been nominated as well. His Toby Radloff was amazing.

Just a great, interesting movie all around.

I am one degree of separation from Harvey as Barry Hoffman, one of the artists that Harvey used, is a friend of mine. Barry was even more impressed with the movie than I was - and I loved it - as its portrayal of harvey and Joyce were spot on.

Harvey's stories were small and intimate, but they illuminated his life, and the lives of those around him, with gentle humor and brutal self-analysis.

I am sorry to see that he was so ill at the end.

Link above did not work for me. Try this one:

Huge fan of Pekar and American Splendor and I love the movie. I re-read the big American Splendor graphic album many times a year and I need to get Our Cancer Year and the other stories.
