So today one of my staff members reported hearing a weird noise coming from the ceiling in a large storage closet. It sounded like belts and pulleys squeaking. But there weren't supposed to be any of those above the ceiling! We had a couple of ventilation fan motors in the attic, so I went up there and checked to see whether perhaps those were somehow making a sound that filtered down all the way through the ceiling. No, they weren't.
So I climbed up on a ladder and pulled out a ceiling section about where the sound was coming from. When I shined a flashlight up in there I saw a strip of foil that had peeled away from a section of insulation rubbing against a piece of metal ductwork. The air blowing past it from the air conditioner had evidently worked it loose. The rubbing was causing a metal-scraping-metal noise that had sounded for all the world like squeaky machinery. I couldn't reach it, so I went and got a taller ladder. Now we've got the loose piece of foil out of the way and the noise is gone. Lucky I found out what it was before any of the Board of Trustees members heard the sound and wondered what was wrong.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion, but Velma and Fred both looked into it and they're convinced it wasn't.
