How can anyone be that good an artist?

Heh. Kevin may be one of my favorite artists in recent years.

Kevin Nowlan? Didn't he draw The Spectre for DC back in the '80s?

he is also one of the nicest and most friendly artist around

He was a pleasure to deal with. The man is way under appreciated.

I loved it.

It was much better than Cats.

I'm going to see it again and again.

Did he do his comic book work before or after Saturday Night Live??

Yeah--Kevin is incredible--and get got to a point where I thought he could do no wrong--and he seemed almost superhuman and then I saw this:

--and I looked at his weird, lanky Black Bolt with his impossibly small legs and serious foreshortening issues and I was relieved to find he was human after all.

He's a hell of an artist and most of the time he is impossibly good--but there are occasional lapses where things look just a bit funky--especially when it comes to drawing hips and doing foreshortening. Still--kicks most everybody's ass. One hell of an artist.

That looks so Kirby-eque. Is it an homage?

That was the sense I was getting--that Nowlan was trying to do that kind of shot and coming up short.

It looks like if he tried to do it right, he would have blocking a lot of the Inhumans' faces but didn't want to pull the Black Bolt back... so he tried to make it work and failed.

Still, it's a very nicely rendered failure.

i think the skinny hips and foreshortening was a deliberate stylistic choice, not a lapse . . . . not a fan of that look myself, Most of his Superman covers from that period are the same

Wow, that's sort of fucked up too. I guess "extreme" perspective isn't Kevin's strong suit.
