There was a time when IFC and Sundance Channel had nothing but indie movies with no commercial breaks. Then they added commercial breaks, IFC began to show reruns of network shows, then original sitcoms and interview shows, and now this. If they haven't done reality shows I'm sure they're right around the corner... IFC Officially Ditches 'Independent Film Channel'Quote: In a bit of news that may comes as a shock to many, IFC has officially changed its name to IFC. Though the AMC Networks cable brand has long gone by its acronym, ditching the Independent Film Channel label it started out with, president and GM Jennifer Caserta announced Tuesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that the long name has still been following them around.
“The name ‘Independent Film Channel’ has been legally retired and IFC as an acronym now stands for nothing,” said Caserta. “Well, it actually stands for a growing number of smart, funny and original alternative comedies, but our viewers already know that. So, starting today, IFC is legally IFC.”
A press release touting the non-news made light of its odd timing: "Some have occasionally continued to refer to it by the name that persisted on a piece of paper in the basement of its home office, the Independent Film Channel, but that document no longer exists."
IFC came to press tour with its high-profile miniseries spoof of miniseries, The Spoils of Babylon. Cast members Kristen Wiig and Tobey Maguire were among those in attendance to talk about the project.
Spoils joins a roster of off-kilter comedies that have come to define the IFC brand since it became an ad-supported in 2012. Other series on the 2014 roster include more seasons of Portlandia, Maron and Comedy Bang! Bang.

For the past couple of years, AMC has stood for the All-Meth Channel.

I'm noticing a few new alternative movie channels (no commercials) popping up in the upper tier of my cable selections.
TCM still stands above everything on cable.

This is worse than when SciFi changed to SyFy.

"Independent Film" has become a very broad term. Most of the movies that are truly independent from studios, that were made with other funds, are not watchable at all. IFC was only entertaining to me when it showed their version of Independent films, which were really critically acclaimed films that were out of the mainstream or were never promoted well by the studios, such as "The Devil's Backbone" or "Breakfast on Pluto."

I never thought it would come to this.
What kind of a person makes a decision like this?
Why do they continue to rape the American public with decisions like this?
Decisions like this are the cancer eating away at Western culture.
Soon we will be assimilated. We'll be living under Jihad Shite law and our women will be wearing those hood things that are like those Star Wars characters Luke met on the desert planet with Obi Wan on it, after the pod with those two funny robots crashed onto the planet and he wanted to go get some power converters but his parents were like no, you can't, it's the big farming season and we have all this sand we still need to farm!
I remember when I saw that movie in the theater that showed movies. It was a long time ago and everyone saw it and we felt good about America because of what happened.
I wish Ronald Reagan was still alive.
