Joss Whedon is returning to television with Dollhouse, a scifi-action series starring Eliza Dushku.

Variety reports that Fox has ordered seven episodes of the show, which chronicles “a top-secret world of people programmed with different personalities, abilities and memories depending on their mission.”

After each assignment, the characters’ memories are erased, and they’re sent back to a guarded lab, dubbed the “Dollhouse.”

“We call it a suspense-drama-mythology-comedy- action-horror musical,” Whedon half-jokingly told EW.com. “The main thrust is the thruline of Echo as a sort of newly born character who goes, ‘Wait a minute — I exist. Wow. So who would I be? And how dangerous is it for me to let anybody know that I know that I exist?’ Not unlike the Frankenstein myth, it’s, ‘Who made me, who am I, and why am I?’”

Barring a writers strike, Fox hopes to put Dollhouse in production in the spring, and have it ready for the fall season.

Looks good. I'll like it, my girlfriend will hate it because Eliza Dushku is in it(just like she hated Eliza in Tru calling that I liked). For some reason, I know not why, but Eliza Dushku has a negative effect on the GF. I guess I'll be DVR'ing this and watching later when the GF is doing something else.

I'm hoping Whedon, Dushku, and Minear (who's also involved) have far better luck with Fox than they have in the past.

Further info in this Variety article. I like that Dushku was the one who dragged Joss in after she landed a deal. It makes sense that Joss wouldn't be rushing to work for Fox again, but he'd do it for her. Coolness.

Unfortunately, this is on Fox.

Which means we can look forward to picking up "The Complete Series" DVD set (containing approximately 6-13 episodes) the summer after the show debuts.

Except for the musical part it sounds like an interesting show to me.
Anything created by Joss Whedon and starring Elisha Duzku sounds like a reasonable gamble to me.

Sounds interesting. Whedon and Duzku? Okay!

I wish Whedon would finish his run on Astonishing X-Men and stop directing episodes of The Office though. ;-)

I am surprised he's doing anything for FOX but I will watch it. Which I will be sorry about later, when I'm hooked and it no longer exists.

How you holding up so far  ?

I thought Dollhouse was OK but I didn't like the series finale at all. It's not something I would buy on Dvd.

I liked it, of course it would have been nice if Epitath One was on regular TV so Epitath Two would have made more sense(and no, I don't have the first season on DVD, which is the only way to see the episode in question).
