Kinda seems like an unnecessary remake to me.

No remake is necessary... not even the Abrahms Star Trek movie.

But the "unnecessary remake" response, I've always felt, is merely code for "I like the first one a lot and I don't want it replaced."

If they stick to the dark horror and avoid the campy comedy, could be interesting.

Necessary? No, but interesting.

I just think the original holds up well and don't see what a remake will bring new to the table. Better to continue the story than start over I guess.

I like the shots of pre-death Kruger on the run from the parents. I like the fear he's showing, and the plaintive "I haven't done anything wrong." If they can give Kruger that kind of nuance, where he's truly a monster, a deranged animal that doesn't see himself as evil, that will be something that the originals never even tried to pull off.

I didn't like the redone shots from the original. The hand in the bathtub. Tina floating above her bed. The pool party looks like the scene from Nightmare 2 (the best of any of the sequels, IMO). I wish they had done away with the hat and the sweater, too. It's the burned face and knife fingers that have to remain, not the fashions.

There's kind of this whole injustice in the set-up...

Kruger gets to do whatever he does to these kids, the parents take action against him, and he gets to come back and terrorize them some more! life's just not fair.

Yeah, the first set of movies really did seem to have the whole "it's our parents' fault" vibe that was a sentiment that came into prominence in the 80's.

I'm thinking this remake might actually be taking the best moments from the last series and having them in this movie so they can do something more new with the character in sequels.

You're one of the few people I've seen that liked Nightmare 2. I kind of like to think it never happened, it wasn't my favorite. The trailer looks good though, I may try to see this in the theaters.

I liked Freddy 2... I liked it better than the first one. It had the iconic "You've got the body, and I've got the brain" line.

Personally, I think having Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy is pretty good casting.

He did a great job in a difficult role as a child molester in Little Children.

I ran across him the other day in an old PLANET OF THE APES tv episode. He played a troubled kid.

I don't like Freddy's voice. And where's the one-liners? He sounds like a generic bad guy.

There will be no one-liners in this. It's a straight horror film. It's goal will be to scare, horrify and disturb you... and it's the launch for a new chapter in the franchise.

But even the original Nightmare was a little funny.

Irrelevant. This is the launch of a new chapter in the franchise. This ain't your father's Freddy.

Bah. Creator's intent.
