I'M SURE IT IS! The iMore blog did a good job at recounting the ways Apple could go http://www.imore.com/2012/05/17/4-inch-iphone/Basically, all of them leads to fragmentation, which I don't think can be avoided if Apple really wants a bigger screen.

Meanwhile, Apple is back to litigation and blocking the sale of the new HTC One X because you can click on phone numbers and get a menu of options. Also, the phone is a rectangle, which violates another patent.

Well, blame the ITC for ruling in Apple's favor. And Apple is not actually blocking anything, the phones are in customs pending review of the removal of the offending feature.

HTC removed it with an update to avoid the hassle, as I understand it. When will the lawsuit from Google over IOS copying the notifications happen? (It's in the works, but equally stupid; IMO it wouldn't happen at all if Apple weren't so litigation happy. This stuff is common sense utility and often prior art.)

Doesn't matter. Once the ITC has issued the exclusion order, US customs have to check.
The rest? Well, we've been through this before. I know you dont believe in patents.

Jay: the phantom car dock is shipping next week for the GSM Galaxy Nexus. Doesn't help you (unless it turns out it fits the Verizon model - I'll let you know if I hear that it does), but it did cause me to proceed with the purchase of a Galaxy Nexus, car dock, desk dock, and leather case (for carrying in my man pockets). My long national nightmare is over. I think I'm selling my Nexus One, car dock, and cradle to my mom. Online I could apparently get a couple of hundred for it, but I'll settle for $150 from her, including all accessories. Unless the dock doesn't actually ship as they say...in which case I cancel the order.

I'm sure the XDA developers board will have people testing the GSM dock with the VZW Nexus and posting results. I'll be keeping an eye on that, because it's the same thread where people are talking about the docks finally shipping.
Oh, and the best part: free shipping and no tax, since I ordered from Expansys and not Google. Basically, I'm getting one of the docks for free, even though I'm paying $10 more than the phone costs at Google pre-tax/shipping.

Jeff, now it's time to play around with NFC tags. I'm thinking of getting into this -- you can have a tag that scans in your car or desk to always change the settings where you want them ( wifi, bluetooth, volume, music on, etc.). This supposedly works well. Watch the video on the app page. https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... bmNoZXIiXQ

I knew waiting for this thread to be bumped would pay off.
The latest all encompassing, untethered Jailbreak for all devices (except the new version of the iPad 2) running 5.1.1 is out.

I was reading about NFC but I didn't completely understand its value to me, if any. I'll look into it more next week when I get the car dock, which shipped yesterday. The phone is fantastic and I'm very happy with it. I'd intended to just keep using my Nexus One until I had all the components, but I opened the box and it was all pretty and 3/4 charged, so I swapped out my sim, backed up my stuff, and got it going. I'm a bit miffed that I have a firmware that gets updates from Samsung, and not Google, but I'm just going to go ahead and unlock it and put the Google firmware on it to get updates faster. There's a 2-3 month delay with what I have. No biggie, except I need 4.0.4 so the phone recognizes it's in a dock and goes to clock/car mode where appropriate. 4.0.2 doesn't do it due to a bug. All in all, a great device though! It doesn't feel as cheap as the demo model I looked at in Staples. I wonder if that one had some kind of funky fake "demo" shell on it? I mean, it's plastic, but it's very sturdy feeling...and that screen.

You should take a photo of your old phone next to your new phone so we can see the difference.

I'd need a third phone. There's a size comparison thingy online somewhere. Oh, I saw a Galaxy Note at Sam's the other day...it's as absurdly, comically large in real life as I'd imagined.

I really fancy getting a Galaxy Note. Size issues aside, it looks like just what I want - a phone/tablet. I'm not due an upgrade until next year but might get a new one anyway. I mean, it's not really about functionality for me, more about gimmickry and cool features - but it's a great little device from what I've seen.

I bet your phone can't be used as a personal defense weapon like the Note. (I've actually used one. It's hilarious)

I encourage you to go "commando" and not put a case on it. It's nicely balanced.

On the size issue, I think the GNex nailed it -- I wouldn't want it bigger, and any smaller seems inadequate to me. It's just big enough that I don't really feel the need for a tablet unless I wanted to write on it ( then I'd go full size tablet I guess). Once I got the GNex, I hardly ever use my Kindle Fire. Because any book I own, it's easier to just use Kindle App on my phone ( and it's a great, great size for reading).
Remember, I broke my other e-ink Kindle. It's still handiest for many types of reading but I'm not forking out for another one yet.
