I was just watching Freaks and Geeks this weekend. The bitter old English teacher is dressing down her ninth-grade class for its deplorable choices of book report subjects: The novelization of Star Wars; Al Jaffee's Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions; Yes I Can by Sammy Davis Jr.
Each kid looks suitably indignant as his favorite is denounced.

Growing up Al Jaffee, Don Martin, Segio Aragones and the guy who did "Spy vs. Spy" were Mad Magazine. All great stuff.

Great thread idea.I completely forgot about Al Jafee, after I outgrew Mad magazine, and started reading National Lampoon. His stuff was really funny.I think I liked his gadgets the best.
Guess it time to search the internet to get reaqainted with his stuff(kinda shocked on how small his Wikipedia entry is)

I received the Mad Magazine collection on CD several years ago. ( All issues from the beginning "comic book" days up to and including the year 2000 issues. )
They try to include all of the weird little gimmicks that were part of the super-size Mad's too ... audio files of the little flexible records ( "Super Spectacular Day" and "Makin' Out" ), the Mad voodoo doll ...etc.
They have some videos of the "gang of idiots"
All of the fold-in's are animated.
There's also a search-engine so that you can locate stories and such.
( Does anyone remember the Super Spectacular Day record? They had an intro song that ended in one of several random endings. They had the grooves for the endings cut into multiple spirals ... your record needle would randomly track with one spiral only and would play that ending. Neat stuff. )
