Saturday one of my kids managed to get to a website that severely infected our computer with some sort of malware or virus. It quickly became almost completely unusable. Trying start Firefox results in an error message; when starting IE, it flashs for a split-second like it's going to load, but then nothing happens. Anti-spyware and antivrus programs run *extremely* slow, even in safe mode. It's also impossible to save or move any files. No dragging and dropping, no cutting and pasting, no burning to CD; nothing works, not even in safe mode.
Now, since I only paid about $250 for this thing about three years ago, I wasn't interested in paying hundreds to get it fixed. Best Buy had an "18 months same as cahs" special going on, and I bought a new HP Sunday afternoon; an excellent package deal that included an Epson printer/scanner. It's awesome, and will hopefully last us many years.
However, there are still some files and pics on the old unit that I hadn't yet backed up. It's pretty frustrating to
see all of that stuff, yet not be able to copy it to a disc or flash drive, etc. Any tech-savvy people have any suggestions, or should we just start planning the funeral?
